Friend of BSEL, Mariana Amatullo, was featured by VentureWell in an article about her social innovation work with Designmatters at the Art Center College of Design.

The number of women of color business owners grew by 59% between 1997 and 2013 in the US and women of color are continuing to drive entrepreneurship, as described by Farah Ahmad at the Center for American Progress.

BSEL Senior Fellow, Paul Vandeventer, wrote a Stanford Social Innovation Review article on the role government can and should play in improving the future of this country.
COMMUNITY UPDATES
 
BSEL Scholars Christine Xu (B.S. '15), India Bulkeley (B.A. '15), and Geronimo Ramos (B.S. '15) are participating as Fellows in StartingBloc's 2015 LA Institute for Social Innovation. 

 

BSEL Scholar, Alissa Gwynn (B.A. '15), accepted a part-time position with Omaze, a company that offers once-in-a-lifetime experiences benefiting charitable causes. She will assist with content strategy to increase engagement on online and digital platforms. 

 

BSEL Fellow, Jessica Risch (MBA '13), recently began a new role as Project Manager at TriLinc Global, an impact investing firm based in Manhattan Beach.

BSEL Fellow Jennie Kung (MBA '13) is now a Project Manager at UCLA's Institute for Innovation in Health.

BSEL Fellow, Asa Firestone (MBA '12), purchased the Boulder Mountain Lodge and is converting it into an adventure sports hub which will also provide employment and training to at-risk youth.

BSEL Senior Fellow, Tara Roth, was named as one of "50 LA tech CEOs, founders, execs, hackers, and investors you must follow on Twitter" by Built in LA.

BSEL Senior Fellow, Paul Vandeventerparticipated in Mapping the Fourth Sector: Advancing the Development of For-Benefit Enterprises and Their Supportive Ecosystem, hosted by the Federal Reserve Board of Governors, George Washington University, and Urban Institute's Center on Nonprofits and Philanthropy.

BSEL Senior Fellow, Paul Polizzotto, and CBS EcoMedia furthered their mission to harness the power of advertising to improve the quality of peoples' lives. Through their WellnessAd, EducationAd and EcoAd programs EcoMedia re-directed millions of corporate advertising dollars to 41 non-profits, leading to 91 projects in 32 cities across the country.

BSEL Senior Fellow, Fran Seegull, will be speaking in February at the Confluence Philanthropy Conference on a panel titled, "Whole Portfolio Activation."

BSEL Senior Fellow, Marco Petruzzi, CEO of Green Dot Public Schools National, and BSEL Senior Fellow, Marlene Kanter, Board Chair of Green Dot, aided in the organizational expansion into Memphis, TN. 


BSEL Senior Fellow, Rose Shuman, co-founder of BrightFront Group, is traveling in February to Ghana to support the launch of UNICEF's National Ebola Hotline.
