Big congratulations to all of our BSEL Fellows and BSEL Scholars who completed final exercises last month at USC's 131st Commencement!

 

BSEL Scholar Ayushi Gummadi (B.S. '12) started a new role as an analyst focusing on CSR responsibilities at the McChrystal Group, a boutique leadership and strategy consulting firm.

 

BSEL Scholar Brillante Wang (B.S. '13) completed his first year of Teach For America in Dallas, TX. Through his efforts, 91% of his high school geometry class passed the district exam.

 

BSEL Scholar Claire Marsh (B.A. '13), Project Manager for Empowered.org, is aiding in a redesign of the Global Brigades platform website to open it for use by other international service organizations.

  

BSEL Scholar Catherine Uong (B.S. '14) recently began a position as Operations Manager at ImagineK12, an edtech accelerator.

 

BSEL Scholar Tiffany Kao (B.S. '14) recently accepted a Program Associate position for Global Brigades and will be relocating to Ghana.   

  

BSEL Scholar John Ingram (B.A. '15) will serve as Co-Executive Director for USC Troy Camp in the 2014-2015 academic year.  

 

Along with fellow Marshall students, BSEL Scholar Amy Kao (B.S. '15), released Shareful, a mobile app that allows users to generate donations by eating at local restaurants.  

 

BSEL Scholar Joy Xu (B.S. '15) was elected Co-President of the USC student organization, Global Brigades @ Marshall.

   

Congratulations to BSEL Senior Fellow Fran Seegull on being named the Los Angeles Top Woman of Influence in the Investment Banking category by Broads Circle.    

  

Senior Fellow Paul Vandeventer delivered the annual Baccalaureate Service address to graduating seniors of the Flintridge Preparatory School class of 2014. He spoke about the early origins of his work at Community Partners and the importance of building strong, caring communities to surround and nurture us throughout life.

  

BSEL Senior Fellow Trish Karlin has been promoted to Executive Vice President, Communications, Marketing and Resource Development for the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation.

  

Senior Fellow Laura Rubbo traveled to Geneva in May and June as part of the United States delegation to the International Labor Organization's 2014 International Labor Conference, where she participated in the creation of an international treaty to strengthen efforts combating forced labor globally.

 

Senior Fellow Paul Polizzotto and the EcoMedia team celebrated Memorial Day at the Volunteers of America Hollywood Veterans Center, helping to renovate, beautify, and install exercise equipment and furniture funded by Living Spaces' WellnessAd buy.

 

Senior Fellow Marco Petruzzi and Green Dot Public Schools will be expanding to do 10 school turnarounds for the lowest performing middle and high-schools in Memphis, TN.  Green Dot is also setting up a regional office in the Puget Sound area in preparation for its first school opening in Washington in the summer of 2015.

 

On behalf of the Coalition to Abolish Slavery & Trafficking (CAST) board, Senior Fellow Kay Buck, accepted the Presidential Award for Extraordinary Efforts to Combat Trafficking in Persons from Secretary of State John Kerry.
