The increasing challenges for NGOs as they face pressure to expand internationally while achieving results in their local communities is highlighted in this recent Devex article, Reinventing the International NGO.

GOOD's recent article, If Microfinancing Creates a Cycle of Debt, is Handing Out Cash a Better Option?, takes a look at Conditional Cash Transfers, a type of loan that requires borrowers to fulfill "agreed-upon conditions that contribute to their long-term odds of escaping poverty", as an alternative to microfinancing.

 

TakePart teamed up with TBWA to create The Future of Social Activism infograph, showing that approximately 73% of American young adults were considered social activists in 2011, versus 38% in 2010. The three biggest issues that young adults care about are quality education, cancer, and literacy.

SBL Senior Fellow Laura Rubbo is proud to share that Disney has announced $2.3 million in grants to three non-profits that will seek to address systemic labor issues in global supply chains.

SBL Senior Fellow Fran Seegull will be lecturing to graduate students this month at the Bren Schol of Environmental Studies and Management at UCSB on how to raise capital for social and environmental ventures. In December, she will be a panelist on Tools & Tips on Financing Sustainable Small Businesses for the Sustainable Business Council.

SBL is so proud to have supported Society and Business Fellow Asa Firestone (MBA '12), CEO of BEYONDgear, during his time at Marshall. Check out his latest venture!
