NPR Journalists Killed On Assignment in Afghanistan

We were painfully reminded this week that journalism can be a dangerous business. NPR photojournalist David Gilkey and interpreter and journalist Zabihullah Tamanna were killed while embedded with Afghan troops on Sunday. Their NPR colleagues have offered remembrances on the air, but here are two very personal tributes you might not have seen.

Jazz in June: Join Us for Three Nights of Live Music

It's almost time to pack the coolers and the lawn chairs and head to Norman for Jazz in June! This year's festival is June 16-18, with an eclectic mix of live performances from Blues artists Shelly Phelps and The Scarlet Street Players and Jon Cleary and the Absolute Monster Gentlemen, big band sounds from the USAF Airmen of Note, latin beats from Beto and The Fairlanes, plus Harumph, Roxy Roca, and Kung Fu. KGOU is the producer for Jazz in June. Stop by our tent and we'll see you there!


KGOU Wins AP Broadcasters' Sweepstakes Award.... Again

More evidence came last week that KGOU provides a high quality service to listeners, as our News department cleaned up with more awards from the Oklahoma Associated Press Broadcasters. KGOU reporters won top honors in most categories, including the coveted Sweepstakes trophy for most awards overall.

Invisibilia's Season Two Begins June 19

Debuting in January 2015, Invisibilia has consistently ranked at the top of audio storytelling podcasts and on-demand listening. Season Two of this Peabody Award-nominated program will offer seven new shows consisting of riveting stories, beginning on Sunday, June 19 at 12 noon. To kick off the season, hosts Lulu Miller, Hanna Rosin and Alix Spiegel had a Facebook Live party last night, previewing one of the featured stories with puppets!

CD Giveaway ~ The Capitol Steps

Elections are the mother lode of comedic material for The Capitol Steps. They've compiled the best of the 2016 race (so far) in their latest CD release, "What to Expect When You're Electing". This collection includes "Shut Up and Vote for Me", "Deleter of the Facts", and "Hello (Is It Mitt You're Looking For?)". We're giving CDs away while we wait patiently to see the Steps live on July 16 at OCCC. (Get your tickets before they're gone!)
