Whad'Ya Know? Ends 31-year Run in June

After 31 years, Wisconsin Public Radio and Michael Feldman will end production of Michael Feldman's Whad'Ya Know?. The final live broadcast is scheduled for June 25. Created in 1985, the live two-hour program has been heard by more than 1.5 million weekly listeners on more than 300 stations, including KGOU. The show's website, notmuch.com, will remain online for the foreseeable future, and archived recordings will be available.

KGOU will be making decisions about a replacement in that weekly time slot, 10 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturdays. Stay tuned! Fans of the show can send messages to Michael and the gang celebrating their long and successful run.

Calling all gardening enthusiasts! The irrepressible host of You Bet Your Garden will present a talk titled "Only You Can Protect Your Native Bees", on Thursday, April 21 at the Myriad Botanical Gardens in downtown Oklahoma City. Come down and meet Mike beginning at 6 p.m. in the Water Plaza Room, enjoy some light appetizers and a cash bar, and at 7 p.m., Mike will speak about the importance of bees, native plants and our role in their lives. The talk will wrap up with your questions. Tickets are $5 per person and are available from the Myriad Gardens.
KGOU Student Broadcaster Wins National Award

Awards from the National Broadcasting Society were just announced at the NBS national convention in Burbank, Calif., and KGOU has a Grand Prize winner! Sarah Hurd was awarded the Grand Prize in the Audio Feature Segment category for her report on freedom of speech on a university campus, which she produced for KGOU's student program, Assignment: Radio. Sarah is soon to be graduating from OU's College of International Studies. Congratulations to Sarah!


NPR Debuts New Podcast, Embedded

NPR is launching a new podcast from All Things Considered host Kelly McEvers that takes a topic in the news and goes deep, drawing not only on Kelly's talents but on NPR's tradition of long-form, sound-rich journalism. It's called Embedded, and it will make its debut March 31 on podcasting platforms. Shorter versions of many episodes will air on ATC, also starting March 31. Hear an audio preview here.


Jazz Night in America: Panama Jazz Festival

Panama may not have an obvious relationship to jazz, yet this small country between the Americas and giant oceans has produced some of the finest jazz musicians. Danilo P�rez, a renowned pianist, educator, and the country's official Cultural Ambassador, is doing his best to underscore Panama's contribution. This week Jazz Night in America takes us to his Panama Jazz Festival. Tune in Fridays at 9 p.m. or Sundays at 7 p.m. for each week's episode, and watch the videocasts on our website.
