Celebrate Independence with Holiday Weekend Special Programs
The Fourth of July weekend kicks off tomorrow, as Morning Edition airs its traditional recitation of the Declaration of Independence. On Saturday, Weekend Edition has a story from StoryCorps' Military Voices project, as retired Marines Anny and Jonny Pena talk about the challenges they faced as military spouses. A holiday weekend is the perfect time for an outdoor music festival, and KGOU has highlights from last month's Jazz in June festival in Norman. Tune in July 4 from 1 - 5 p.m. for great sets from this year's performances. On the lighter side, the Capitol Steps "put the mock in democracy" with their semi-annual special Politics Takes a Holiday Saturday evening at 6 and Sunday at noon. Tune in for a fun exercise in First Amendment rights as the Steps lampoon American newsmakers.

New Evening Jazz Hosts Continue Parlocha Legacy
Since the unexpected death of Bob Parlocha in March, KGOU's Jazz with Bob Parlocha has been airing Bob's recorded material, with a few guest hosts. The program provider, the WFMT Radio Network, has now announced permanent hosts for the program Bob founded. Starting July 6, Greg Bridges and Lee Thomas will permanently bring their deep knowledge and passion for jazz to the show. They'll be hosting on alternating nights, voicing their insights and sharing their knowledge from the studios of KCSM in San Francisco, in partnership with WFMT. Although the name of the program will change to Jazz Network, the show will feature archived recordings of Bob Parlocha, so his voice and his wisdom will still resonate throughout the four-hour show, Mondays through Thursdays at 9 p.m. on KGOU.
