The Capitol Steps Are Coming to OKC!
The Capitol Steps have been a Washington, DC institution for over thirty years, providing their unique blend of musical political comedy. This troupe of former legislative staffers are bringing their hilarious show to the Oklahoma City Community College Visual and Performing Arts Center Theater on Saturday, Aug. 22. They'll be singing the "hits" from their new album, Mock the Vote, guaranteed to leave both sides of the aisle laughing. You might have heard their semi-annual specials on KGOU, Politics Takes a Holiday, every New Year's Eve and 4th of July -- now see their onstage antics in person. Tickets are $35 and $45, available at the OCCC box office at (405) 682-7579.

'Jazz in June' Starts Tonight
As Tropical Storm 'Bill' exits the scene, Norman is ready for its 32nd Jazz in June Festival -- three days of free concerts in the open air. Tonight is Blues night at Brookhaven Village in Norman, at 36th Ave. NW and Robinson St. Performances start at 7 p.m. with Kalo and then Nathan James & the Rhythm Scratchers. Tomorrow night's Jazz performers include Kyle Reid & the Low Swingin' Chariots and trio Moon Hooch. On Saturday, the festival remains at Brookhaven (because of the soggy ground at Andrews Park) with more performers: The Nichol Quintet, Culture Cinematic, and headliners Bill Evans and his band Soulgrass. Pack your cooler and lawn chairs, check the Jazz in June website for any weather-related updates, and join KGOU for a great musical tradition!

Oklahoma Voices: Democrats 'Losing Little Dixie'
In southeastern Oklahoma - the region also known as Little Dixie - the Democratic Party dominated from statehood until the turn of the 21st Century. While most of the rest of the south turned away from the Democrats following the civil rights movement of the 1960s through the rise of Reagan, southeastern Oklahoma remained solidly Democratic -- but the tide has changed. Logan Layden, a reporter for StateImpact Oklahoma, has produced an audio documentary, Losing Little Dixie, which explores how a combination of strong leadership and unique cultural influences kept southeastern Oklahoma blue in a sea of red, and charts the reasons behind the recent collapse in Democratic support there. It airs on KGOU's Oklahoma Voices on Monday, June 29 at 11 a.m.

Ticket Giveaway ~ The Audience, Starring Helen Mirren
|
For sixty years, Queen Elizabeth II has met with each of her twelve Prime Ministers in a private weekly meeting known as "The Audience". Peter Morgan's play imagines what is said in these meetings, showing glimpses of the woman behind the crown and the moments that shaped a monarch. This role earned Helen Mirren a Tony Award earlier this month. Recorded live during the original run of the production in London's West End in 2013, Fathom Events brings the show to satellite cinemas nationwide on Thursday, June 25. Enter our drawing for a chance to win free passes and tell us whether you prefer the showing at Quail Springs Mall or Tinseltown.
