KGOU News: Training for Reserve Peace Officers
Reserve peace officers have to undergo less than half the state-sanctioned training full-time officers do, but when they're on duty, reserves have the same power as any other officer. Smaller police and sheriff's departments use reserves to pad their forces when their tax base is too small to hire enough full timers. But are reserves prepared well enough to take the place of fully certified officers? KGOU's Kate Carlton Greer explores this story on Monday, Apr. 27 during the newsmagazines; listen and watch for it online at KGOU.org.

The collaborative reporting project KGOU leads with public media partners KOSU, KCCU and KWGS, StateImpact Oklahoma, has won a regional Edward R. Listen for more from Joe on other public radio programs coming soon.

Spring Fundraiser Concludes Successfully, Succinctly
KGOU's experimental approach to the spring fundraiser successfully raised more than $183,000 over three weeks of non-interrupting reminders and only about 12 hours of the familiar interruptions of an on-air fund drive. Our gratitude goes to these people: 1370 listeners who gave their financial support, our patient, wonderful phone volunteers, and Ingrid's Kitchen and Gaberino's Homestyle Italian Restaurant, who fed the staff and volunteers. A few listeners said they preferred the regular fund drive, but many said they appreciated the new way of raising funds. In case you missed the opportunity to give, it's never too late -- donate online. Thank you!
