KGOU Is Now Broadcasting in Shawnee
K286BZ is now on the air in Shawnee at 105.1 FM! KGOU has expanded our collection of repeater signals and translators to better serve our listeners in Shawnee. Chief Engineer Patrick Roberts has been overseeing the assembly and testing of the new translator over the past several months, and we started broadcasting last weekend. Whenever you're traveling around the state, check all our frequencies to see if you can get KGOU on your car radio. And remember KGOU is always on your smartphone at kgou.org.

KGOU Welcomes News Director
Jacob McCleland joined KGOU as News Director this week, ending an extensive search for a leader for our news operation. Jacob comes to KGOU from KRCU in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. His highly regarded work there and with a collaborative reporting project, Harvest Public Media, give him extensive experience in leading a news organization in the 21st Century. You might also have heard some of his reports for NPR, like this story from a few months ago. Listen for more from Jacob soon. Welcome to Oklahoma, Jacob!

KGOU Students Win News Awards
 The University of Oklahoma students who produce a bi-weekly newsmagazine for class credit, Assignment: Radio, now have more accolades. The Oklahoma Broadcast Education Association recently announced its annual awards, and KGOU alums swept the category for long-form radio journalism. Taking first, second and third places, respectively, are Sara Hurd, Molly Evans and Hayley Thornton. The links to their work are on our Awards page. Molly Evans deserves recognition for her entry "A New Kind of Classroom", which received an Honorable Mention in the national Broadcast Education Association's Festival of Media Arts. Congratulations!

NPR News Series: Election Season Amid Israeli-Palestinian Conflict
 It's a decades-old conflict that has eluded considerable effort at resolution -- Israelis and Palestinians continually trying to claim the same land. Traveling in Israel and the West Bank, Morning Edition host Steve Inskeep explores some of the stories in that epic struggle as they unfold against the backdrop of an Israeli election season. The reports will air on Morning Edition, All Things Considered and Weekend Edition Saturday starting Wednesday, March 11.

New Season Begins for Backstage Jazz
 Season 3 begins Friday, March 6 for Backstage Jazz, a music and interview program produced locally by Jeremy Gossett, going behind the scenes with jazz musicians. The season premiere episode, airing at 10 p.m. Friday on KGOU, features the Oklahoma City Jazz Orchestra at the Petroleum Club downtown, with organist Tony Monaco. Future episodes this season feature a tribute to guitarist Raj Rathor, vocalist Diana Smith, trumpeter Bria Skonberg, and the Glenn Miller Orchestra.

 Chamber Orchestra Kremlin, founded and led by Misha Rachlevsky, has earned national and international recognition as one of Russia's leading ensembles. They bring their high energy to Oklahoma City Community College's Visual and Performing Arts Center Theater on Thursday, March 26.  One of America's most thought-provoking, multi-faceted and compelling pianists, Jeremy Denk is the recipient of a 2013 MacArthur Fellowship and was named Musical America's 2014 Instrumentalist of the Year. He joins the chamber orchestra led by his frequent collaborator, Joshua Bell, the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, on Wednesday, March 18 at the Armstrong Auditorium.
