Sunday Matinee: IQ2 Debates Common Core
In K-12 education, there is nothing more controversial than the Common Core State Standards, national academic standards in English and math. Adopted by more than 40 states, Common Core has been rejected by Oklahoma lawmakers. On Sunday, Sept. 28 KGOU's Sunday Radio Matinee features a debate by Intelligence Squared U.S. on the question, "Should we embrace Common Core?" Tune in at 12 noon for a lively and informative Oxford-style debate on the issue.

Fall Membership Drive: We Challenge You!
KGOU's fall membership drive is just a few weeks away, and we are challenging ourselves and listeners to take the KGOU Challenge. Let's get some momentum going on social media by sharing our devotion to public radio excellence. Use one of these signs as your profile pic, or take a photo or video of yourself holding one. There's plenty of room for creativity -- make your own sign, or make your photo or video as creative as you want to be! Then share it on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram with the hashtag #SupportKGOU. Once you've done that, and perhaps even challenged some of your friends, consider volunteering for phone-answering duties during the drive. We still have some open seats (especially early in the morning!) and would love to see you and show you around the station. Share what KGOU and public radio mean in your life, and if it's time for a little financial support too, use our online donation form anytime.

World Views: Local Org Helps Undocumented
Undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. as minors have a local champion. He's Akash Patel, founder of Oklahoma City-based non-profit Aspiring Americans Initiative, which works to help undocumented students sign up for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival (DACA) applications. It's also a personal mission -- Patel came to the United States as a toddler, and 22 years later, his family's immigration paperwork is still being processed. Host Suzette Grillot talks with Patel on tomorrow's World Views, broadcast Fridays at 4 p.m. and again at 6:30 on KGOU.

News Series: Millennials, the New Boom
By 2030, the generation known as Millennials -- people between the ages of 18 and 33 -- will outnumber Baby Boomers. They're already making some huge changes in our economy, communication tools, culture and politics. NPR newsmagazines begin a month-long series on Monday, Oct. 6, directed by the youngest people on NPR's staff. Reporting topics include education, jobs and work, family, buying habits, racial and cultural identity, food, communication, political activism, and sexual and gender values. Reports will air on Morning Edition and All Things Considered. Midday newsmagazine Here & Now is sending producer Rachel Rohr on a cross-country reporting trip in a VW camper van, talking with young people about issues important to them ahead of midterm elections. Her project is called Alternate Routes and includes a photo journal on Tumblr. She has included Oklahoma on her journey and will be here next month.
