Oklahoma Voices: Norman Forum on Fracking
oilfield storage tanks A capacity crowd participated in a town hall forum in Norman last Monday on hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, its possible connection to an increase in earthquakes in Oklahoma and its consumption of public sources of water.

StateImpact Oklahoma reporter Logan Layden was asked to moderate the discussion, which was as lively as it was informative. On Monday, Aug. 18, Oklahoma Voices will air highlights of the forum, beginning at 11 a.m.
 

Whad'Ya Know? Comes to Oklahoma City Oct. 25
Michael interacts with audience Funnyman/Host Michael Feldman will bring Whad'Ya Know? to Oklahoma City for the live broadcast nationwide. KGOU and Oklahoma City Community College are hosting this special event on Saturday, Oct. 25 at OCCC's Visual and Performing Arts Theater.

Tickets go on sale to the general public tomorrow -- until then, use the pre-sale code of "KGOU" to get the best seats available. Ticket prices range from $25 in the balcony to $45 closer to the stage. Whad'Ya Know? was here in 1993 and it was a great show. Get more information or buy tickets. Okla.Tornado Project: Rebuilt Moore Schools Reopen
Briarwood Elementary Moore's Briarwood and Plaza Towers Elementary Schools reopen Tuesday, 15 months after being leveled by a tornado. Seven students at Plaza Towers were killed. The schools have been through one academic year in temporary locations, but the buildings have now been rebuilt and many students will return to the places where they experienced fear and destruction.

On Monday, Aug. 18, Kate Carlton Greer with KGOU's Oklahoma Tornado Project talks to a fifth grader who's going back to Briarwood Elementary. Tune in during Morning Edition to hear her report or check the OTP web archives.
 

KGOU Welcomes New Staff Members
Cindy Cottrell As we said farewell to two staff members in the past few months -- one retiring and one relocating to another city -- we wondered how we would ever fill their shoes. KGOU is very fortunate to find two exceptional people to step in and forge ahead in two key positions at the station.

Cindy Cottrell is KGOU's new Business Manager, and will oversee financial and personnel aspects at the station. Cindy brings a wide range of experience, and is busy these days diving into all of our fiscal systems. Ben Fenwick

Joining KGOU just this week is our new News Director, Ben Fenwick. Ben is an experienced journalist whose work is highly acclaimed, earning many awards over his 20-year career. As did many who came through OU's journalism program, Ben also has some previous experience working at KGOU back in his graduate student days. Ben's reporting will be on the air and online soon.
 

Live In-Studio Guest on The Weekend Blues
Matthew Curry Fresh off a six-city tour with the Steve Miller Band this spring, Matthew Curry, a rising star from Normal, Ill. has already seen standing ovations at music festivals, and the lines for his autograph at the merchandise booths are longer than most headliners. This talented singer/songwriter/guitar hero will be live in-studio with 'Hardluck' Jim Johnson on Sunday, Aug. 17 on The Weekend Blues.
 

'Design a Tote Bag' Contest Winner Announced

Drew McConville, who listens to northern Illinois station WNIJ, designed this winning entry. See the best of the entries here. PMPM is hoping to sign up more listeners for the campaign to promote public funding of public media -- you can enter their giveaway to win one.

Oklahoma Blues Hall of Fame Giveaway ~ Tickets to Dusk Til Dawn Blues Festival in Rentiesville
The signature annual event of the Oklahoma Blues Hall of Fame, the Dusk Til Dawn Blues Festival is scheduled for Aug. 29 - 31 in Rentiesville, Okla. (near Muskogee). Three days and nights, three stages, indoors and out, 35 bands, over 200 musicians, workshops, a Kid's Village, and barbecue.
