Electronic Travel Authorization for Canada travelcanada

The leniency period the Canadian government previously announced for travelers affected by the  Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) requirement will be ending on September 29, 2016. After September 29th all air travel to Canada from a
visa-exempt country
, whether it is passing through or visiting Canada, will require an eTA.

If you have travelers going to Canada, we encourage them to plan ahead in the event they need an eTA. The eTA application costs $7 and requires a valid passport or travel document. Applications are usually approved within minutes, but can take up to a few days. If you or your traveler is unsure if they need an eTA they can
check here to determine if they need it and how to apply.

For now travelers that don't have eTAs can board flights without them, as long as they have appropriate travel documents such as a valid passport. They must also meet the other Canadian government requirements for entry.

Canadian citizenship and immigration officials are also asking travelers to beware of fraudulent eTA websites that are scamming travelers out of their money and personal information. This is the only legitimate and official website to apply for the eTA.

No eTA requirements are necessary if a US Citizen is traveling to Canada.
Does Advance Purchase Save on Fares or Increase Exchange Costs?advance

Notice the drastic difference in ticket prices based on when you book! However, the 21 and 14 day advance are are same. Travelers usually will not save any money by booking an extra week out, but could actually end up spending more on changes.

Almost 10% of all business travel trips are cancelled or changed, which results in an extra fees averaging $200. Often times, the farther in advance you make plans, the greater the chances of those plans changing.

Bottom Line: If you wait to make your reservation 14 days prior to your travel, you are still getting the best fare, and have a better chance of avoiding change fees.
