Salaam Alaikum,

As we approach the end of the holy month of Mahe Ramadhan and begin the joyous preparations for Eid, we must also assist in fulfilling the needs of those who are impoverished and our continuous responsibility to provide relief to them. Therefore, we should be reminded that such people in need require our help to make it through the year. Zakat ul-Fitrah is a special form of obligatory Zakat given at the end of the month of Ramadhan to accommodate this need.

Zakat-ul-Fitrah is obligatory and will be due and payable on the eve of the Eid-al-Fitr and should be paid before Salaat-ul-'Eid.

The rate payable per person this year is $10.00.  Zakat-ul-Fitrah is based on the prevailing staple food which is rice and/or wheat flour. The rate of $10.00 per head is based on the current price of Basmati Rice in our area.

A box will be setup at the treasurer's desk, beginning on the eve of EID (expected to be July 5th) where members can deposit their Zakat-ul-Fitra amounts. EID day is expected to fall on Wednesday, July 6th.

SIJNY will make arrangements for collection and disbursement of Zakat-ul-Fitrah on behalf of our members, as it normally does every year.

Regards,

Secretariat.
