Reminder about Water Conservation

The City's Stage 3 Water Conservation Plan remains in effect. The following water conservation measures are required:

1. The use of lawn and landscape sprinklers and irrigation systems is restricted to the evening/night and early morning hours only between 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 a.m. Outdoor irrigation during rain or any form of precipitation is prohibited.

2.  The use of lawn and landscape sprinklers and irrigation systems is limited to one day per week, if needed. In order to more evenly distribute the demand on our water system, each residential and business customer is assigned one outdoor watering day per week based on the last number in the street address as shown in the table below (please note that that assigned watering days for 2014 are new and not the same as last year).

Assigned Watering Day

Mon.

Tues.

Wed.

Thurs.

Fri.

Last Number in Address

0 or 9

1or 2

3or 4

5 or 6

7 or 8

For example if your street address is 4701, your assigned watering day is Tuesday. If your street address is 1008, your assigned watering day is Friday. Residential and business customers may not use sprinklers and landscape irrigation systems except on their assigned watering day.

Exceptions are as follows:

  • Foundations, new landscaping, new plantings (first year) of shrubs, and trees may be watered for up to two hours on any day by hand-held hose, a soaker hose, or a dedicated zone using a drip irrigation system.
  • Public parks or athletic fields that have been recently seeded or sodded may irrigate as necessary to establish the turf. The City may order the suspension of such irrigation if necessary to recharge or maintain adequate water levels in the City's ground and elevated water storage tanks.
  • Public athletic fields with established turf may be watered twice per week.

3.  The City may limit, alter, or suspend operation of the splash pad or other public amenities when necessary to recharge or maintain adequate water levels in the City's ground and elevated water storage tanks.

4.  Washing or rinsing of vehicles is prohibited except with a hose end cutoff nozzle.

5.  Using water in such a manner as to allow runoff (such as hosing driveways or paved surfaces) is prohibited, however, pressure washing of impervious surfaces is allowed.

6.  Existing swimming pools may not be drained and refilled (except refilling to replace normal water loss).

We urge our residential and business water customers to fully comply with the Stage 3 Water Conservation Plan. Reducing our water usage will help extend the city's groundwater resources and limit the amount of treated surface water the City will need to purchase from the North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) during the summer months. The City's water conservation program is part of a larger collective effort to preserve water resources in the rapidly growing north Texas region.

For more information about water conservation and recommended best practices for watering your landscape, please visit the water conservation page of the City's website at www.annatexas.gov.
