The Final Blarney Stone
Dear Friends,
As the kids have questioned, "How did the year go by so fast?" But, as always, before I have a chance to respond, they quickly follow up with, "I'm glad it's summer time!" I am certain our teachers and you agree.
I wanted to use this final Blarney Stone to share five of our graduating 8th graders' reflections about their time at St. Pats. Here are excerpts from Stevie Bono, ASB Treasurer; Anya Ishida, Secretary; Angelina Pacheco, Vice-president; Anthony Sharkey, President; and Dan Lovejoy, Valedictorian.
"Memories just don't happen. Memories are made, whether it's little things like bringing a can of food for the food drive or raising thousands of dollars for projects benefiting our school and world. For me, these are the events at St. Pats that are memorable; the ones that count."
"My peers have shown me kindness and taught me about God and seeing God in everyone. Through St. Pats, I have been given many opportunities to serve others. One of the most important things in life is service to others."
"St. Pats has changed and shaped me into the person I am today. I am leaving this school as a confident, young, empathetic person feeling prepared, loving life, and ready to take on the challenges coming my way. My challenge and hope for kids who remain is for them to find their gifts and to use them to help others and to make this community a better place."
"We have learned much from St. Pats, and I am grateful for all of our teachers and staff, for all of their help along the way. We would not be the same individuals today if we hadn't gone to St. Pats."
And finally: "Our race at St. Patrick Catholic School is nearly over. The race may be ending, but our names are recorded. We will not be forgotten."
Our graduates won't be forgotten, and I hope they find their way back to us often. These insights remind me of their growth and serve as a testimony to all of you, who have raised your children to be caring and educated.
Blessings on your summer, and my sincere thanks for the many ways you have helped us to live out our mission everyday this school year. For those who are leaving us for whatever reason, I wish you the very best. For those who are returning with your children in the Fall, help them with our "summer climb." Read, do a little math, explore our beautiful Northwest, and pray the Examen with your kids. (They can help you with this lovely way to pray daily or weekly.)
Peace and all good things to you and yours,
Chris
