Leadership

If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.
-John Quincy Adams

Dear Friends,

Leadership isn't easy; I hear it all the time.  There are more people willing to volunteer behind the scenes than be the chair of a group.  "Just let me do the work but don't put me in charge" is a common refrain when asking people to lead.  It makes sense; leadership takes time, likely involves compromise and can be messy.  On one hand, St Pat's is no different than many places.  On the other hand, our school community has been blessed with many talented leaders in all areas of school life.  Whether in elected office or volunteer positions, parent and student leaders have helped us dream bigger.

It starts with our Associated Student Body officers, who worked together to create a culture of support and encouragement.  This year, they embraced the theme "We Rise As One" in planning school-wide activities ranging from Spirit Days to general assemblies.  President Anthony Sharkey and his team took seriously their responsibilities in leading the student body.  President-elect Torie Smith and her cabinet have already started planning for next year.  Cultivating an atmosphere ripe with student leadership is a key component of good schools-and no easy task-and ASB Adviser Mr. Miller deserves a lot of the credit.

There is no limit to the generosity of Saint Pat's Parents Association nor to its President's enthusiasm.  Doug Jones never looks for recognition and unceasingly works to help our school become a stronger community.  From welcoming new families in August to Field Day in June, SPPA is the leadership engine that keeps us moving.  I am really pleased that Katie Ecklund will be co-President with Doug next year tag-teaming a vital leadership role for parent voice.

School Commission is entrusted with the mission of the school.  President Chris Kradjan seamlessly facilitates the enormous agenda of the Commission and inspires everyone to work together.  Joe Brady will continue Chris's work as next year's President. He will welcome three new members to a great group of people.  Special thanks to Lisa Schomogyi who will remain as the Commission representative on the Accreditation Leadership Team.

Leadership also comes through the work of our SCRIP Director, Meaghan Bihun, and the incredible generosity of Molly Langdon and Angela Sorenson who led our successful Annual Fund Campaign.  Linda and Bruce Titus showed the depth of their love for St. Pat's as Chairs of our best ever REACH Auction.  Being the face and voice of a fundraising effort is not the choice of most people so I am especially grateful for the leaders who helped us achieve our financial goals in keeping our school accessible to as many families as possible.

So many people deserve our thanks as we come to a close of another school year.  With a common vision and a strong sense of community, our parent and student leadership inspire us to be more together than we ever could be apart.  St. Pat's wouldn't be the school it is and needs to be without you all.

On behalf of our teachers and in gratitude,

Chris

Girl Scouts

Dear School Families,

Thank you very much for all your help and support in helping us reach our fundraising goal. Our Silver award project of beautifying the school garden is making great progress. Through only two bake sales and one free dress day we have raised $1,155.53.

Come next school year, the school garden will be fresh and as ready for the new school year as the students. We wouldn't be able to complete our project without all of your help.

Thank you once again,
The 8th grade Girl Scouts
