Pentecost Sunday - What's in your wallet?
Dear Families,
I read an article recently on credit card use, specifically ways to protect oneself from identity theft and overbearing debt. The simplest recommendation was to clean out your wallet, and I instantly thought of the Samuel L. Jackson commercial where he asks, "What's in your wallet?" So, I decided to take a look.
Besides my driver's license, American Express, and Visa, I found I had missed a dentist appointment, am driving with an expired insurance card, need to schedule a CPR and First Aid class, and am no longer a certified scuba diver! There is a faded picture of my wife and kids that I was thankful to find. I was happy to see that I have SCRIP for Safeway, but was not so happy when I found a gift card that should have been used by May 1 (2013!!). I have $7 of fairly wrinkled bills and two business cards, one from a gastroenterologist and one from a chiropractor-neither do I plan to call. I suspect that if anyone found my wallet and wanted to steal my identity, they would look for another person to be.
We carry lots of things in our lives, sometimes stuffing things down so far down that we forget they are important or even there; other times, we hang on to things that we should have thrown away long ago. We have regrets we won't let go of and angers that are stuffed like wrinkled dollar bills. I wish some of the hurts would have expiration dates (like my gift card), but somehow they get hauled around well past the time we could redeem those relationships ourselves.
Today, on Pentecost Sunday, I am reminded that no matter what I worry about, fear, or can't seem to let go of, God has breathed his Spirit into me. God's spirit carries me even when I carry too much. Jesus is faithful to his promise to always be our advocate, to gently walk with us when we are burdened.
I need to trust Him as much as I need to do a little personal Spring cleaning-starting with my wallet. I pray the same for you.
peace,
Chris

Spring Musical
Saint Patrick School Drama Dept
presents their Spring Musical
BUGSY MALONE!
Dozens of Saint Pat's student actors and crew members, led by a team of adult designers and Bellarmine Drama Student Interns, have combined forces to present the fantastically-fun, approved-for-all-ages musical BUGSY MALONE for three performances only: May 20 and 21 at 7 pm; May 22 at 2 pm.
All performances will take place at Bellarmine Preparatory School (McAstocker Theatre)
IT'S A COSTUME PARTY!
All audience members - young AND old - are invited to come dressed as Wise Guys and Flappers and share in the fun of BUGSY MALONE, the hilarious spoof of 1920s Prohibition-era speakeasies and gangsters. (All violin cases will be inspected at the door.)
Based on the 1976 film starring the very young Scott Baio and Jodie Foster, with music written by Paul Williams of The Muppet Movie fame, two gangs comprised completely of children, square off in a 1920's rivalry of Capone-ian standards. Dandy Dan's gang has gotten the upper hand since obtaining the "splurge" gun and now Fat Sam and his bumbling buffoons are in real trouble! Bugsy Malone, a one-time boxer, is thrust not-so-willingly into the gangster limelight, when he becomes the last chance that Fat Sam's gang has of surviving. But all Bugsy really wants to do is spend time with his new love Blousey, and that just ain't in the cards for our hero.
