The Cornerstone
A Letter from the Pastoral Council

Dear Fellow Parishioners,

Last year, the retirement of Father Seamus, and the introduction of a different model of Pastoral Leadership for Saint Patrick Catholic Church & School, a Lay Pastoral Coordinator and 3 Parish Priests, prompted Kevin Lovejoy to ask members of the Pastoral Council to stay on the Council for an additional year to help us through this period of change and transition. We were happy to step up to serve our community for an additional year. We believe our advice, counsel and leadership was of tremendous benefit to Kevin and our parish. We are grateful for the opportunity to serve our church during this challenging and rewarding time.

As we continue to discover and discern what Father Jerry describes as  "the mission that has us,"  Saint Patrick Parish will continue to rely on the collective wisdom and talents of our parishioners, and the active leadership of a representative Pastoral Council. Fortunately, we are incredibly blessed at Saint Patrick, with many talented and committed parishioners. You are one of these talented parishioners, and that is why you are reading this. Now more than ever, Saint Patrick Parish needs a robust, and spirit-filled Pastoral Council that values our history as a parish and is passionate about our future. Our universal church, and Saint Patrick in particular, face unique challenges in the coming years  as the reforms and visions of Pope Francis emerge, and as we consider various forms of parish organization and leadership related to the shortage of priests and religious in our diocese.

The overall responsibility for our parish lies with all of us, not just the Pastoral leader, be that a Priest/Pastor or lay Pastoral Coordinator. We, the collective community of Saint Patrick, must think, plan, and ultimately act together if we are to fulfill our mission as Church in the modern world. We are asking you to join us in this journey by discerning whether you may be called to service on our Pastoral Council.  We have five council positions to fill.  Of course no one can guarantee that you will be elected to the council, but we do know that you have the spiritual and temporal skills needed to serve our parish community. Saint Patrick Parish needs people like you to step up at this time. You have strengths and talents that we firmly believe would serve the needs of our community.

Thank you for taking the time to discern whether you are willing to share them at this time. Members of the Council would be more than happy to discuss the roles and responsibilities of the Pastoral Council with you face to face. Please call the parish office at 253-383-2783 or email pastoralcouncil@saintpats.org, and we will get back to you immediately.

Jr. Daffodil Parade
Jr. Daffodil Parade

The theme is "Fun In The Sun!"  Come and watch on April 16, 2016.  The parade starts at 10:00 am.

To be part of the parade, please meet at 9:30 am in front of Mason Methodist Church (2710 North Madison St) on the corner of North 27 St and Madison St to kick off the day with the Pledge of Allegiance, opening prayer and refreshments of donut holes, juice and coffee provided by the Scouts.

Groups with floats (Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts) can arrive at 9:15 am to help decorate. We need to be "in line" and ready to roll by 9:50 am. The Scouts are group B-4 and the school is group B-5. We'll march in that order so that it coincides with the commentary from the PA announcer near the end of the parade route.

Please RSVP so that refreshments can be properly planned.  Check out the Map, information on limited Parking and parade details from the Jr. Daffodil Parade Committee.

In our continued mission to welcome new parishioners the Cara to Cara Ministry is hosting a Welcoming Reception & Ministry Fair the weekend of April 30, 2016 and May 1, 2016.

Save the date!  All new volunteers must attend the class Protecting God's Children. The class is being offered at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, April  27, 2016 in the Parish Center.

To attend this class you must log-on to
VIRTUS to register and establish an account with the Seattle Archdiocese and follow the steps to becoming compliant with all Safe Environment requirements.

A Letter from the Principal

Dear Friends,

One of the most important fundraisers and fun events we have as Saint Patrick Catholic School is our REACH Auction.

This year our Reunion theme, Building on Generations for a Bright Future, is a perfect reminder that we connect, or better yet, reunite, our gifts with our hopes.  What we hope for our school, what we desire for our children is united with your generosity.  A gift of any amount is a gift for all of our kids now and in the future.

I know this community to be generous, but this week I am asking you to consider making a bid to our fund-an-item.  Whether attending the auction or not, I ask you to support our vision to introduce cutting edge technology in each classroom.

We have looked closely at our classroom needs and piloted technology extensively, our decision to put innovative interactive 70 inch panels into every classroom is a game-changer for our students.

Your children deserve to be taught with passion and care in a classroom equipped to explore learning inside and outside the walls of our school.

Pray for the success of our REACH Auction.  Thank you to our REACH sponsors.  For a ful list of sponsors click here

Sincerely,

Chris Gavin
Principal, Saint Patrick Catholic School

REACH Fund An Item:
High-Tech Interactive Flat Panels

"Learning should always be active, stimulating and yes, fun," says Principal Chris Gavin.  And that will be easier to accomplish with Boxlight interactive flat panel displays in every classroom that look like giant tablets with easy viewing from the entire classroom.

Interactive flat panels are sophisticated teaching tools with technology that provides internet access and allows for the integration of learning apps and teachers' instruction. Imagine giant, interactive and collaborative classroom tablets that teachers and students can use to share educational content such as notes, assignments, artwork, video, and almost anything imaginable.

Research has shown that students learn best through active engagement, group participation and frequent interaction and feedback. With the interactive flat panels, teachers and students simply touch the screen to write, edit or navigate through a presentation - which provides a highly interactive and collaborative learning experience.
