Back to the Future
Thirty years ago this Wednesday, October 21, was the day Marty McFly and Doc Brown flew into the future. This silly movie and sequels kept people laughing as the wiry haired "Doc" and the cute Michael J. Fox traveled into the past by accident and into the future to right history. I can't remember the movies much other than the hero was a guitar playing high school kid, the Delorean was cool, and neither the past nor the future were outside of their control. We know that this notion of time travel is made for movies. Doc and McFly could travel in time but the rest of us stay put. In fact, we are encouraged not to dwell in the past or to live for the future; ours is the present. Many of us have learned and believe we make our destiny by what we do today. It all makes sense, and is real, but the movie's anniversary reminds me that there is something beautiful about not being too bound by the restraints of time. I find great joy in looking back to bear witness to those who have come before me, to honor the legacy of parents and grandparents, elders and saints; I also enjoy dreaming about a future I can't see nor will likely experience. I won't get in a Delorean and land in the future, but I believe that we are part of how that future will unfold. It's why I am excited about our Accreditation process and our self-study year. As a community, we are being asked to look at our past as we move into the future. From our mission statement and founding documents of the Dominicans, we are challenged to reflect on what we do well and what we need to change. Our self-study allows us to honor those who built this school by considering how we live those ideals today and how we can better do so in the future. You have a chance to join us on this journey by attending the Stakeholder's Evening on Tuesday, the 27th. Your perspective on how St Pat's is living our mission today is vital to us. Together, we will plan for the future that is not yet known. We will be in the gym starting at 6:30 pm. I hope you will join us. We have much to be grateful for, not the least those who have come before us. Our future is bright and full of promise. Today is what we have, and it is full of God's grace.
peace,
Chris

Calling all Veterans, Reservists, and Active Duty Service Members in the St. Patrick Catholic Church and School community. You are cordially invited to be a part of our annual celebration and recognition of those who have served, or are currently serving our country in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard. Please join us for a celebration of your service to our nation! As part of our Veterans' Day Assembly, we want to recognize any relatives of St. Patrick Catholic School students, staff, or faculty who are veterans. We sincerely look forward to an assembly that instills in our students a true appreciation of the dedication and sacrifice our veterans have made for our country and for each of us. At our assembly, we will introduce all honored veterans and their St. Patrick School family members. If there is someone you would like to have recognized, please follow Veterans' Day Form and complete it by Tuesday, November 3, 2015. In addition, we are offering an opportunity to recognize a veteran who isn't present at the assembly, called "Stand Up For a Veteran". Parents, please watch for the yellow card coming home with your student. If you would like a military family member (living or deceased) honored during our upcoming Veteran's Day Assembly please complete it and have your student bring it back to school on Friday. During the program all students with these cards will be asked to stand for a special presentation.
