Huppah-All are Welcome
Our opening song at our first all-school Mass was All are Welcome. Not surprising, it was also the entrance song at Mass on Sunday. The song captures the spirit of our church that is led by Pope Francis who has said, "The church is born from God's desire to call all people into communion with him." Not some but all, so "Everyone recognizes he or she is a child of God and loved by Him." This summer I went to five weddings of former Bellarmine students and one came to mind when I listened to All are Welcome last Thursday. The wedding was a Jewish ceremony celebrated by a rabbi from Notre Dame where the bride attended graduate school. The outdoor wedding overlooking the Puget Sound was stunningly beautiful made only more so by the graceful wedding canopy-a huppah. The couple told the story of the huppah as a symbol of their new home with the silk sheet canopy as the protective blanket of God. The four open sides are a reminder they told us, of God's welcome. Just as Abraham and Sarah had welcomed people from the four corners of the earth this young couple shared their hope that their home, their lives, would always be a place of sincere welcome and hospitality. It is my desire and great hope that our school is a huppah. A building enveloped by our loving God, blanketed with the graces of his son Jesus. I pray that we open wide our doors to the Spirit of God who calls us to be brother and sister to each other. We will be the family we are meant to be at St. Pat's when everyone feels that the doors to our school are as open as a canopy and the welcome we give is as loving and soothing as the words of the song: All are Welcome in This Place. peace, Chris Our Welcome Calendar; Intermediate Mass on Thursday Sept 10 at 8:45 am School-Parish Picnic on Sunday 13 at 11:30 am (Parish Courtyard) Back to School Night Sept 17 at 6:30 pm (Gym)

Volunteer Training
There are many opportunities to volunteer at school and we want to make it as easy as possible for our school families to do so. To volunteer here at St. Patrick Catholic School the following must be completed:
1. Background Checks Volunteers with unsupervised, ongoing access to minors and vulnerable adults are required to complete a background check every three years. Screening is also required from any volunteer with access to cash, checks or other negotiables; any volunteer driving in the course of their service; and any volunteer who is not related to a student in a Catholic school.
2. Policies All volunteers are required to read and sign the Policy for the Prevention of and Response to Sexual Abuse, Code of Professional Conduct, and Reporting Suspected Abuse of Minors and Vulnerable Adults.
3. Safe Environment Training Volunteers with unsupervised, ongoing access to minors and vulnerable adults are required to complete the Protecting God's Children course within 90 days of beginning service . Current volunteers are required to take updated online training courses every three years.
We will be hosting in the school's library the "Protecting God's Children" class for new volunteers on Wednesday, September 23th beginning at 6:30 p.m. To attend this class you must log-on to VirtusOnline.org to register and establish an account with the Archdiocese and follow the steps to becoming compliant with all Safe Environment requirements.
All current employees and volunteers who have already completed the Safe Environment requirements will be automatically transferred into the new database. VIRTUS sent log-on information to every current participant in August. Those who have already attended a Called to Protect for Ministries class will not be required to take the VIRTUS foundation class, Protecting God's Children. These individuals will be notified by VIRTUS when it is time to renew their background check and/or take an online refresher course, which is now required every three years.

CYO
Welcome back to another year of CYO athletics. CYO stands for Catholic Youth Organization. It created an athletic division years ago. It is different than other athletic leagues. The main differences are that we celebrate through prayer and acknowledgment of competition and our opponents. The volunteer coaches strive to introduce children to each game and help them become better athletes, but they strive to always focus on sportsmanship, fairness and becoming better people through the competition and stress that sports create. Our school's athletic director is Matt Smith and if you have any questions, please contact him at cyoathletics@saintpats.org.
Our Cross Country team is up and running (!!!) and has their first meet on Saturday, September 12th at Bellarmine High School. If you have any questions please contact the head coach Megan Miller or the athletic director, Matt Smith. The athletic director can be reached at cyoathletics@saintpats.org.
CYO basketball will start forming teams for 4th-8th grades at the end of September. Practice will start in October. Season play will begin in late November/early December. The season runs through the end of January.
CYO volleyball starts forming teams for 5th-8th grades in February. Practice will start in February. Games start in March. The season runs through April.
There are several other athletics that are offered through the Sno-King CYO program. St. Pat's has not had its own team in these sports, yet! These sports are soccer, baseball, softball and track.

Catechetical Sunday
Saint Patrick Catholic Church will celebrate Catechetical Sunday the weekend of September 19 - September 20, 2015. Those whom the community has designated to serve as catechists will be called forth to be commissioned for their ministry.
Catechetical Sunday is an invitation to reflect on the role that each person plays, by virtue of Baptism, in handing on the faith and being a witness to the Gospel. Catechetical Sunday is an opportunity for all to rededicate themselves to this mission as a community of faith. Catechists from the following groups will be called forward: R.C.I.A., ReMembering Church, and the Children's RCIA; Baptism, First Reconciliation and First Communion, Confirmation, Youth Ministry, teachers at Saint Patrick Catholic School, Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, Young Adult Ministry, Adult Bible Study, Family Based Catechesis, Vacation Bible School, Walking with Purpose, Men's Prayer Group and Children's Rosary Group.
On Catechetical Sunday, we not only honor and bless those whom the community has designated to serve as catechists. In addition, we honor and bless the role of parents, grandparents, and guardians in their role as primary catechists of their children.
