ACC celebrated Independence Day with the Community Band performing its annual concert at Briscoe Park. The City of Alvin then followed the concert with an entertaining fireworks display set to music.

ACC Registration for Fall 2016 Now Open
 Registration for the Fall 2016 semester is now open and will close on August 8. The payment deadline is also August 8. Registration after the deadline through August 23 will include a late fee. Classes will begin on August 22. Students who may not be able to register during the week can register during the Super Saturday event on August 13 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Admissions Office. ACC Regents Approve New Board Policies
Board of Regents approved updates to the local board policies during their meeting on June 23. Board members formed a subcommittee in November 2014 to review the policies and make the needed changes. The board held several workshops and worked with the Texas Association of School Boards to determine how best to make adjustments. The changes are required due to recent updates in state law. Regents also recognized student Shemilore Oguntoye for recently being named to the USA Today All Academic list through Phi Theta Kappa. Shemi is a recent graduate of the college and is currently working for the Physical Plant. Read the full story about the meeting.

College to Participate in Second Chance Pell Program
ACC was named one of 67 American colleges and universities in the nation selected to participate in the Second Chance Pell pilot program, which will provide grant funds for prisoners seeking a higher education. "ACC is very excited to take part in this program," President Dr. Christal M. Albrecht said. "We were the first college in Texas to offer college courses to inmates. The Second Chance Pell Program will allow us to build on an already successful venture with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice." The U.S. Department of Education announced the program in July 2015 to test whether participation in high quality education programs increases after expanding access to financial aid for incarcerated individuals. ACC President Named Head of Workforce Organization
President Dr. Christal M. Albrecht was recently tapped to lead the National Council for Workforce Education (NCWE) board. The organization serves as the national forum to affect and direct the future role of two-year and other postsecondary institutions in workforce education and economic development. Members include administrators and faculty in workforce education and basic skills as well as representatives of business, labor, military and government. Read the full story.

Libby Koch Performs Next Alvin Live
 Country singer/songwriter Libby Koch will perform at the next Alvin Live Summer Concert on Thursday, July 14 at the K-219 Studio. Funds raised from Alvin Live performances are used for ACC Broadcast Communications student training and scholarships. Tickets are $40. Refunds are not available. Doors for all concerts will open at 7 p.m. Appetizers and adult beverages will be provided. The Fab 5 will close the series out on August 11. To purchase tickets over the phone, call 281-756-3600. ACC Joins Hispanic Chamber of Commerce

The IRS Data Retrieval Tool (DRT) enables FAFSA applicants and parents to transfer their income information from the IRS to the FAFSA. Looking ahead to the next school year, it is time to apply for the 2017-2018 FAFSA. Apply now at fafsa.ed.gov.
Applications are accepted throughout the year. However, if you want financial aid for Fall 2017, complete the FAFSA beginning October 1, 2016.
