Program Spotlight
Respiratory Care
ACC offers a two-year Associate's Degree as well as a certificate in Respiratory Care. Respiratory Care Therapists work with patients of all ages, from premature babies with underdeveloped lungs to elderly individuals who may have been affected by disease. Therapists also provide patients the treatments and other resources to improve their quality of life. In April, the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) awarded ACC with the Distinguished Credentialing Success Award for Registered Respiratory Therapists (RRT). The criteria for Distinguished Success Award included three or more years of outcomes data, hold accreditation, post a 90 percent pass rate or higher and meet CoARC standards for credentialing and job placement.
Respiratory care positions are in high demand according to the U.S. Labor Department. The agency projects that respiratory therapists will see an increase of 19 percent over the next 10 years. The average median pay for a respiratory therapist is approximately $55,000.
