Message from the President of ACC
|

During the January 28 Alvin Community College Board of Regents meeting, Stantec Architects presented a draft of the final version of the facility master plan. The plan contained recommendations of projects to be considered in the short term (1 - 3 years), projects to be considered in the mid-term (4 - 6 years) and longer range projects (7 - 10 years). The co-chairs of the Long Range Facilities Planning Committee, Dr Christina Rice and Mr. John Wennerstrom presented the prioritized projects selected as most important by that committee. Among those projects were a new west side campus to be located near the 288 corridor, a new Tech building at the current campus location, various classroom, critical systems, and student life upgrades, renovation of the E building, N building and demolition of the G building, site and safety improvements, and the addition of a culinary program at the Nolan Ryan Center. There were other projects considered by the Long Range Facilities Planning Committee but not recommended to the board including changes to the front entry drive, an expansion of Nolan Ryan Center, additional buildings on the west side campus, and a new fitness center for the current campus. The Board of Regents will hold a meeting on February 11 to discuss these options and will vote on whether to call a bond election on February 18. I appreciate the contributions of the Long Range Facilities Planning Committee and the time they spent thinking about the future of Alvin Community College.
Fins Up!
