Heroin in Hudson - A Community Discussion
"It's an Epidemic" states Hudson's Police Chief

By Doug Robinson of the Area News Group
Did you know:  Last year, 321 people died from their addiction to Heroin in NH.  For Hudson's first six months of this year, Hudson is trending a 10 to 15% increase over last year with emergency ambulance runs to help those with an overdose?

Did you know:  NH is the 49th worst state (after Texas) in the U
S for Opioid abuse and budgeting for the care of those with addictions?

Did you know:  Babies are now being born who are biologically addicted to Heroin and Opioids and most Heroin addicts over 35 years old started their addiction to Opioids as a result of a medically prescribed pain killers, by a doctor, for a medical injury?

Did you know:  The cost for a hit of Heroin is only $10.  A few years ago, it was $80?

In response to these serious times, the Area News Group will host Heroin in Hudson-A Community Discussion at the Community Center, October 1, 6 pm. The doors will open at 5 pm for those who wish to visit with more than a dozen local agencies who have committed their participation to help, guide, and advise residents about heroin and other addictive drugs.  More of this story can be found in this week's Hudson-Litchfield News!
Hudson Sustainability Committee to Host Button Up Workshop
Wednesday, September 23rd - 6:30 PM
at Rodgers Memorial Library, Community Room

"Button Up NH" workshops are being held throughout the state to provide NH homeowners and renters with information and techniques to help them save money on home energy use.

The Hudson Sustainability Committee invites the public to join them for an evening workshop where all who attend will leave with ideas on how to reduce home energy costs.

The Hudson Button UP NH Workshop is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, September 23rd from 7:00pm to 8:45pm at the Rodgers Memorial Library on 194 Derry Road in Hudson, NH.

Presentations will be conducted by an independent certified energy professional, Andy Duncan. Participants will learn basic building science concepts and learn the basics about air sealing, insulating, and conservation measures that reduce fuel and electricity use.

Attendees will also learn how to sign up for Home Performance with Energy Star (HPwES) - a program run by the energy efficiency services at Eversource, Liberty Utilities, NH Electric Coop and Unitil. HPwES is open to all NH families and is solely based on whether your home has a higher than average heating fuel bill. By signing up for the HPwES program, NH residents on  a first come first served basis, can access a Home Energy Audit for $100, financial incentives up to $4000 and technical expertise.

These workshops are being funded by Eversource, Liberty Utilities, NH Electric Co-Op and Unitil. The Plymouth Area Renewable Energy Initiative (PAREI) of Plymouth, NH is working with local groups, such as the Hudson Sustainability Committee, statewide to bring this important information to the public on behalf of New Hampshire's utilities.

Refreshments to start at 6:30 PM with the presentation to start promptly at 7 PM.  To register to attend contact the Hudson Sustainability Committee at [email protected] or call Debbie Putnam at (603) 882-8485 between 9 am and 7 pm.
