Greetings!

We are less than three weeks away from rolling out our new KDL catalog, and we've been very busy training our staff and getting everything functioning and looking fantastic! I apologize that our temporary inability to offer interlibrary loan services has been a disappointment to some of our cardholders. Please bear with us through this process as we work on increasing and improving our services to you.

By October 1, KDL cardholders will again be able to request items KDL does not own through MelCat, the statewide resource sharing system. There will be a direct link to MeLCat from the KDL catalog. It will be an easy electronic process to request titles KDL does not own. By going directly to MelCat from the KDL catalog, we are opening up access to much larger holdings throughout the state for our customers, offering the collections of more than 400 public, school, college and university libraries around the state.

The new catalog will be a significant improvement for KDL cardholders: better search experience, easier access to our digital collection and more customer-friendly policies, like increased allowable holds and the ability to avoid overdue fines by renewing material (that does not have holds) up to three times.

Change can be a struggle, but we think within a short time, you will come to love the enhanced features of the new catalog, while still enjoying the ability to access material KDL does not own.

We hope to see you soon!

KDL Uncorked Serves Another Round

Returning this fall after a fruitful inaugural year, KDL Uncorked dishes out a variety of programs for wine and hard cider enthusiasts. This season, patrons can look forward to free wine-making and tasting programs held at various KDL branches and discounted winery tours and tastings.

One program new to the roster this year is wine entertainer Allie Merrick, director and co-host of the video series My Wine Words, who pairs literature with wine tasting.
Steve Siciliano, owner of Siciliano's Market in Northwest Grand Rapids, will lead Winemaking 101 classes and Jason Lummen, owner and creator of The People's Cider Co., welcomes patrons to come and learn about the art of dry cider making.
As with the KD aLe beer series, KDL Uncorked includes a pair of off-site events designed exclusively for KDL Uncorked: a buy-one get-one wine and cider tasting at Kayla Rea Cellars in Rockford and a tour and discount tastings at Cascade Winery.
