From the Director:KDL Card: A Back-to-School Must-Have Greetings!
How many times have you heard (or even said) "Everything students need is on the Internet for free and at your fingertips." Gurdit Suri, a University of Michigan student, sees it differently:
"My local library has been the search engine that helps me find the right answers, without fail. I would not have gotten the scholarships I received, the test scores I achieved, received the awards for academic papers I have written, gotten admission into the third best business school in the country or been able to cost-effectively travel to the places I have been had it not been for the resources and people at KDL."
Author Neil Gaiman said it best: "Google can bring you back 100,000 answers; a librarian can bring you back the right one." Getting information is easy, but getting the right information takes practice. We've had 77 years of practice.
Lance Werner, KDL Director

Why I Contribute to KDL:
Maureen Fitzgerald Penn
As chairwoman of the KDL Fund Development Board in addition to her paying gig as founder of her own communications company, Penn & Ink LLC, Maureen puts in a lot of time, on her own time, helping to make sure the value of the library is well known throughout the 27 communities that comprise KDL's service area. The daughter of a school librarian, Maureen also helps spearhead fundraising efforts to expand and enhance KDL programming and collections.
Why does she do it? "I grew up in a home where reading was a requirement, and we would spend hours at the library. I just truly believe the opportunity to have access to libraries should be available to all."

Rooster Gets Mixed Reviews
When Critter Barn visited the Grandville branch, one young patron stepped right up. The other, not so much. That's OK, we've got rooster-related materials for loan too. |
