From the Director:
Wanted: Mountaintop Shouters
Experience not necessary; enthusiasm a plus Greetings!
A new federal report released last week issues a call to action that should be on everyone's to-do list: Those who see the benefit of libraries and museums to early learning would do well to shout it from the highest mountaintop and to their friends, co-workers, family members and the policymakers whose decisions impact the very existence of both.
Both our president and our governor have stressed in recent months the need for a renewed commitment to early childhood education and to collaboration among those of us who provide those resources.
At KDL, we're all over that, 12 months a year. If you know someone who might not realize all the services today's libraries offer, bring them to any KDL branch and let us show them how public libraries impact millions of families every year.
Lance Werner, KDL Director

Summer Reading @ KDL:
Lots to Do -- Inside and Outside the Library
With programs for kids, teens and adults, the whole family can get Grounded in Happiness @ KDL this summer. And if discovering some great books isn't enough incentive to participate, we also have awesome prizes up for grabs, including gift cards to nearly 20 different stores, a John Ball Zoo membership, iPod shuffles and a NOOK eReader.
Summer Reading @ KDL goes until August 10. Stop by your local branch to sign up, and don't forget to pick up a program guide while you're there. Our summer line-up includes dinosaurs, magic, animals, food and music, just to name a few!
There's also an online component to our Summer Reading program if you're into experiencing summer on your own terms and want to qualify for even more prize drawings.
