Crockpot Cook-Off Entries

Yes, it's time again to hold our 5th Annual Crockpot Cook-off on November 9th, following worship.

The rules are simple: Select a recipe that is cooked only in your crock. This can include anything from breakfast dishes, to soups, main courses, or desserts. Basically, anything that you can cook in a crockpot.

Adults, youth, and children will then sample each one, voting on the yummiest dish. The person with the most votes will win a gift certificate to a local restaurant!

The entry fee is $5.00, and it would be helpful if it is submitted along with your name and what you'll be making to the office as soon as possible.

CWU World Community Day - Friday, November 7

World Community Day sponsored by Church Women United of Monmouth and Vicinity will be celebrated on Friday, November 7, 2014, at Faith United Presbyterian Church.  World Community Day is an ecumenical celebration that brings attention to ways that we can be the Body of Christ throughout the world. The 2014 theme is: We are in God's hands and we are God's Hands. This year we are learning about how we can bring healing to each other in our groups, our families, and in our communities. Rev. Dr. Kathy Stoner-Lasala will speak about healing prayer during the program which will start at 1:15 p.m. Marjorie Butler will be the musician during the program. Darlene Moffet and Sharon Graham are representatives from Faith United Presbyterian Church to the Church Women United Board.

A luncheon provided by Church Women United Board Members will be served at noon. No reservations are needed. Child care will be provided. Everyone is cordially invited to attend.

Thank Offering

Presbyterian women have been making grants to creative ministries through the Thank Offering since 1888 when Eliza Clokey of Springfield, Ohio, urged each woman to give one dollar over and above her usual contribution to the Women's General Missionary Society of the United Presbyterian Church of North America as a "thank offering to her Lord."  That first offering was credited with saving the world-wide missionary movement of the church.

This special offering now funds proposals for new ministries that improve the lives of women and children throughout the world by relieving pain, providing clean water, alleviating homelessness, providing educational opportunities, and promoting health.  In February 2014 the Creative Ministries Offering Committee of Presbyterian Women met to review applications for grants from last year's Thank Offering.  Seventeen of the thirty projects receiving support serve people in need in the United States.  For example, a $20,000 grant to MentorKids USA will provide a one-year reading program for 50 south-Phoenix youths with the goal of helping each student read at or above grade level within 12 months.  The full list of 2014 recipients is posted next to our church bulletin board.

I will show you my faith by my works - James 2:19

This year's Thank Offering will be collected Sunday, November 23.
