Missing a Baking Dish?

There are two rectangular glass baking dishes in the church library that belong to someone.  One is a burgundy color and the other is clear. If one of these belongs to you, please pick it up and take it home.

Thanks!

Got a Little One?

Two beautiful Fisher-Price booster chairs have been given to the church by the Brown family.

These chairs function much like regular high chairs but strap to a regular chair, both around the seat and back, and have removable trays with covers that are easy to  wash. Because they take up less space, they are able to be stored right  in the Social Hall, between the pew benches.

These will be a big help
to our families with babies and young children at church meals and events.

Isabel Circle

Isabel Circle will meet at 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 24 at the home of Jonalyn Heaton (734-5801).

The lesson will be on "God's Call to Serve" (Lesson 2 of the Horizons Bible Study).  Just as God called Moses despite his hesitation, we too are called to service even though we may feel inadequate.  God's promise to Moses is also to us:  "I will be with you." (Ex. 3:12.)

Jane Kellogg will be facilitating the lesson.

All women of the church are invited.

 October Mission Focus:
Operation Backpack

Operation Backpack is a program of the 1st Street Armoury and supported by Monmouth Rotary.  The program provides food to the children in Monmouth-Roseville Schools who need it the most.  Children are identified by school district officials who distribute the number of backpacks needed each week.  Each backpack provides the child with 6 nutritious kid-friendly meals to help bridge the gap at home over the weekend and school holidays. The need continues to grow with 81% of Pre-K through 6th grade students in District 238 qualifying for free or reduced priced lunches.  Last year 186 students were served and the number is expected to grow to 220 this year.  Every little effort makes a child feel less forgotten.  Better test scores, improved reading skills, positive behavior, improved health and increased attendance have all been attributed to the success of Operation Backpack.

Saturday of Service - November 2

Do you have a 3-hour project that needs to be done at your home? Maybe painting, packaging items, raking leaves, moving furniture, working with children, working with elderly, assisting with setting up Christmas decorations, delivering supplies, etc.? Would you like to have a college student(s) perform these services?

Monmouth College is hosting their Saturday of Service program on Saturday, November 2 from 12:30 - 3:30 p.m.  They are looking for requests from community groups  whose members, particularly seniors, have need for volunteer help that can be performed by students as they learn about the importance of civic engagement in their community. All they ask is that you sign up in advance and supply the needed materials such as paint, ladders, brushes, etc.

If you are interested, please contact the church office at 734-5129.  Vicki will put your work request on a list that needs to be submitted to the Office of Student Involvement at the college by Friday, October 25.  There is no cost for the program.

Budget Requests - Due by October
 27

The 2014 budget request forms have been distributed to all those responsible for expense line items in the church budget.  Please return these to the church office with your 2014 estimates filled in. Amounts budgeted for 2013 and spent through October 6, 2013 have been filled in  to assist you in making your 2014 estimates.

Completed requests may be placed in the yellow folder marked "2014 Budget Requests" on Vicki's desk in the church office. The Stewardship & Budget Committee needs these turned in by Sunday, October 27.  They can also be mailed to the church at 200 South 8th Street, Monmouth, IL  61462.

Thank you for your help!

Dear Family of Faith,

I would just like to express our appreciation for the many sweet and heartfelt expressions of condolence we received on the recent death of my beloved Aunt Shirley.  Each one was a comforting touch.

Sincerely,
Vicki Briscoe

Deepest thanks to the many Faith Church friends for their truly wonderful messages and cards during my extended illness and recovery.  They did my heart a world of good.

Crop Walk Logo
               Crop Walk -  October 27

For a second year "Crop Walk" is returning to Monmouth. On Sunday, October 27 at 2:00 walkers will meet at Monmouth College's Huff Center to begin their journey. If you are interested in walking, please see Stephanie Reading in the social hall after church. She will give you a fund-raising packet. If you are unable to walk but would like to donate, walkers will be taking your donations in the Social Hall over the next couple of weeks. Walkers of all ages are welcome!

Read what one pastor wrote to encourage his congregation and ours to participate:

"I walk because I hope to experience the change that Jesus brought forth as he walked from Galilee to Jerusalem transforming the lives of those he encountered. I walk to help others. I walk to change the lives of my children, and to change my life. Let's walk together in our communities' CROP Hunger Walks knowing that we do not walk alone. For just as Jesus walked with the poor, the lonely, the sinful and the hurting, Jesus walks with us. Let's make this the year when we challenge those around us who are looking for a way to be of service to participate in their local Walk. And let them know that they make a difference in the lives of others who are connected to them by our common heritage as the children of God."

Crock-Pot Cook-Off Entry

Yes, it's time again to hold our 4th Annual Crock-pot Cook-off on November 3rd, following worship.

The rules are simple: Select a recipe that is cooked only in your crock. This can include anything from breakfast dishes, to soups, main courses, to desserts. Basically, anything that you can cook in a crock-pot.

Adults, youth, and children will then sample each one, voting on the yummiest dish. The person with the most votes will win a gift certificate to a local restaurant!

The entry fee is $5.00, and it would be helpful if it is submitted along with your name and what you'll be making to the office by Sunday, October 27th.

Taste-buds Needed!
