Be Happy
Family of Faith Sunday

September 8th is "Family of Faith Sunday" to kick off the new Sunday School year with a special celebration.

We will first and foremost be strengthened in Christ by celebrating the Eucharist in worship.  Afterwards there will be burgers, brats, and hot dogs provided for an all-church potluck. Bring a covered dish and your own table service. Be sure to invite your friends and neighbors to join us for time of family-friendly fun and fellowship!

Fillman Fellowship - Sept. 12

All women are invited to attend Fillman Fellowship at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, September 12, in our Social Hall.  Please bring a sack lunch.  Coffee and tea will be provided and we encourage everyone to invite a friend.  Our faith is our foundation and our mission is to be supportive and provide friendship, fellowship, and a fun time together.  See you on the 12th!

Mission Focus - September

The Strom Center for local seniors will be the mission focus for the month of September. Listen for more information in our weekly Minutes for Mission at Sunday worship.

There is a new job request for Mission in Monmouth - the project is replacing floor boards in a bathroom for a local single mom.  Sign up on the office door if you are interested in helping.
PW Surveys

PW is very interested in your input and will be collecting surveys through mid- September. There are boxes in the back of the sanctuary and on the table under the mirror near the office where  you can drop off your surveys.

Thai Circle - Today, September 5

Thai Circle will meet at the church on Thursday, September 5 at 9:30 a.m.  Please pick up your Horizons study book and read the Introduction and Chapter 1.

Wednesday Night Live!

It's that time of year to register for Wednesday Night Live.  WNL is a dynamic, fun-filled program loaded with opportunities for children in first through sixth grade.  It meets on Wednesdays from 3:20 to 6:00 p.m., starting on September 18 - November 20 for first semester and January 15 - March 19 for second semester.  Registration forms are available in the Faith Church office and in the Social Hall.  Fees this year remain the same as last year.

Fees
(yearly)
(per semester)

$40.00
$20.00
for 1st child
+ $30.00
+ $15.00
for 2nd child
+ $20.00
+ $10.00
for 3rd child
If you have four children in the program, the 4th child is free.

Fees are $2 per week.  They can be paid on a semester basis ($20), or an annual basis ($40).  Fees need to be paid upon registration. (They can also be paid on a weekly basis, but we prefer the semester and yearly payments.  Checks should be made to Faith U. P. Church.  Scholarships are available by contacting the WNL director at 734-5129.

The WNL picnic and informational meeting is Wednesday, September 11th at 5:15 p.m.  Table service and a picnic style meal will be provided.  All WNL children and their families are invited.  WNL volunteers are invited as well.  It would be helpful (but not mandatory)  if you would let the church office or Deb Dingman  know if you think you will be attending so we can have enough food. Information will be shared and WNL booklets will be handed out at the meeting.  It is going to be an exciting year at WNL. Our theme is "fruits of the spirit."   See you at the picnic!

Please turn in WNL registration forms ASAP.  This will be helpful to plan for our first WNL session which is September 18th.  You may also sign up on Wednesday, September 11th at the picnic/informational meeting if you haven't signed up before then.

.  We also welcome donations for scholarships or supplies used at WNL.  Make checks out to Faith U. P. Church and designate WNL donation in the memo line.

There is also a snack provider sign-up sheet on the church office door, including those who would like to sign up for monetary donations toward ice cream sandwiches for the picnic on Sept. 11.

I look forward to directing WNL this year and would appreciate prayers and any help you can offer.  If you know of children that might be interested, please pass the word along or give me their name and number so I can get registration info to them.  Thanks in advance!

Deb Dingman
WNL Director for 2013-14

Monmouth College Chapel Services

Each Monday, from 12:10 - 12:40 p.m. during the academic year, chapel services are held in the Dahl Auditorium.  These are led by Rev. Dr. Teri Ott and her student chaplains and are attended by faculty, administration, staff, students, and the public at large.  Though the services are short, they are very inspiring and it is a good chance to get better acquainted with students.  The first chapel service was held earlier this week.  The next service will be Monday, September 9.

Click here for further information about the chapel services and other events related to Religious & Spiritual Life at the college, some of which are open to the public.

Lifespan Development Study

Adjunct Professor Ellen Henning of the Monmouth College Psychology Department is teaching a course this fall in Lifespan Development.  She is asking if anyone in our congregation, aged 60 or older, would like to participate in a study her students are conducting as part of their course requirement.  The project would involve two 1-hour sessions with a student to be scheduled at the volunteer's convenience.  All interviews will be kept confidential.

I know that other people from our congregation have participated in similar projects in the past and found it to be very interesting.  If you would like more information, or would like to participate, please contact the church office.  Or, you may contact Ellen Henning directly at 815-735-3701 or email her at ehenning@monmouthcollege.edu
