September 8th is "Family of Faith Sunday" to kick off the new Sunday School year with a special celebration.

We will first and foremost be strengthened in Christ by celebrating the Eucharist in worship.  Afterwards there will be burgers, brats, and hot dogs provided for an all-church potluck. Bring a covered dish and your own table service. Be sure to invite your friends and neighbors to join us for a good time!

Fillman Fellowship - Sept. 12

All women are invited to attend Fillman Fellowship at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, September 12, in our Social Hall.  Please bring a sack lunch.  Coffee and tea will be provided and we encourage everyone to invite a friend.  Our faith is our foundation and our mission is to be supportive and provide friendship, fellowship, and a fun time together.  See you on the 12th!

PW Surveys

PW is very interested in your input and will be collecting surveys through mid- September. There are boxes in the back of the sanctuary and on the table under the mirror near the office where  you can drop off your surveys.

We are pleased to announce that so far $545 has been received for the Tools & Blankets offering.  You may still contribute by writing a check to Faith United Presbyterian Church and noting "CWS Tools & Blankets 2013" on the memo line. Thank you to all who so generously supported this program.
Trustees Report

The steeple has been repaired.  Thanks to Chuck Peirce for spearheading the project.  In addition to the repairs, two slats needed replacing and painted for an additional cost.  Since the equipment was in place, it was approved to go ahead with those repairs.  Thanks to Gene Larson for overseeing the completion.  From that project two ruts and a sidewalk crack were left...John Lyle and George Nieman have already planted grass seed and topped it with black dirt and lifted the section of the cracked sidewalk.  Thanks so much!

We are interested in knowing if anyone in the congregation has a need and/or want for the church to be considered by the Memorial Committee.  If so, please contact Deb Tomlin or Joyce Patterson.

Thanks to Bonnie and Carol Heflin for sharing their homegrown tomatoes with us.  You see, there are rewards to being on the Trustees!

Joyce Patterson,
Moderator of Trustees

Faith Church is Alive and Well!!

In case you had any doubts about that, you should have been at the Faith Church ice cream social last Sunday!!

One bright side of our current heat wave--it thawed out our alleged "Frozen Chosen" image and converted us to the Flawed Thawed!  All of our volunteers were very friendly and created a very pleasant experience for our church and our enthusiastic guests.

Although your committee has received generous comments, this was truly an all-church event---an event that demonstrated that Faith Church is ready and eager to move forward with vigor and initiative under our interim minister as well as the permanent pastor yet to be named.  This type of positive experience should be infectious and inspire similar events and programs.

Particulars of the ice cream social:
  • Approximately 425 people were served, including 100 drive-through meals.
  • Nearly 75 church members assisted, ranging in age from 8 to 99!  Our youth and their leadership did an excellent job on the drive-through and clearing of tables.
  • An estimated two million and seventy calories were served!  Weight Watchers owes us big time!
  • Entertainment was provided by two talented pianists and even two clowns showed up.
  • Nearly two thousand dollars was raised for designated mission projects, although the benefit to the church from the cooperation and unity of the congregation was priceless.
The committee expresses its appreciation to the congregation for its outstanding support and participation.

Prayer Concerns

Please continue to keep in your prayers:  Blaine Robinson (son of Cindy and Bill Robinson), the family of Andrew Melvin (Ed Melvin's father), Louise Roos, Cathy Abernathy (now at home),  Andrew Hayward Smith, Chuck Hallam (at Seminary Bounce-Back), the family of  Merle Brown,  Cinda Stansbury (now at Marigold), Vern Mettler,  Irvin Lipp (now home),  Tara Hanson, Mary Johnson, Sally McVey, Gary Youngblood,  Lindsay Murdock, and Jim Paris.

The Robinson family has started a Caring Bridge web page where they can post updates on Blaine called Saving Private Robinson at:  www.CaringBridge.com

Update on Lindsay Lindsay Murdock

Jake has posted an August 26 update on Caring Bridge. Lindsay anticipates leaving On With Life and coming home at the end of September/early October.  She went to the Iowa State Fair twice with family and friends, including little Easton, and has been attending other outings such as picnics, Iowa Cubs baseball games, and shopping.  She got to see Easton's excitement at getting his first haircut and watching him starting to walk.  Her therapies are continuing in full force--writing, speech therapy, walking with a regular walker, arm strengthening, and she is done with tube feeds, now taking medicine by mouth and drinking liquids throughout the day.  Meanwhile, her dad and crew are getting the house ready, while Lindsay and her mom are picking out furniture.

Says Jake, "It's the little things like seeing Easton's first haircut, taking him to the fair, and seeing him walk that really make Lindsay's determination shine.  I have to give it to her -- a lot of people with brain injuries become discouraged very easily and their attitudes can affect their recovery.  As of yet, I don't think any of us can say that Lindsay has been affected in that aspect.  She always remains positive, and the ability to move home and be with Easton every day has only increased her ambition to succeed.  We are all thankful for the way things have been going lately, and thankful to all of you for your continued support, thoughts, and prayers!"

To:  Rev. Charles B. Cunningham & Congregation, Faith United Presbyterian Church:

Thank you for sending the large-print bulletins and CDs of the services to Genevieve Ball in Maple Plain, MN at Haven Homes!

I'm sitting with her now as she listens to the August 18th 9:30 Sunday Worship Service and follows along on the bulletin.  She is calm and prayerful, quietly appreciative of your kindness to an elder member of the congregation that she calls home.

Blessings to you all!
