After-Worship Gatherings:
An Update on our Progress together
Here is a list of some of the things we have shared:
1. At Session we set a tentative search plan - three months of listening and sharing, one month to complete our church information form, and one month (Lord willing and the creek don't rise) to find a new pastor. 2. The first week of after-worship discussion we listened to an overview of the search process and the need for grass-roots participation. After some discussion, we saw a humorous cartoon called "Who moved my cheese?" We realize that there is always change in life. How we face it or deny it is the real challenge. Some helpful learnings were gained by chuckling at ourselves and our resistances to doing things differently. 3. Last week after the anniversary celebration, ten folks joined around a table to plan some times for discussion. These will be: Sunday after worship, Tuesday mornings at 10:00, Wednesday after work at 5:15p.m., and Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. They will last for one hour. 4. We discussed the concept of visioning. This coming week we will focus on vision. Vision is critical for any organization to thrive! What it is. What it does. What is the difference between personal vision and shared vision? Pastor Charles This information also appeared in the June 23, 2013 Sunday Bulletin

After-Worship Gatherings:
An Update from Sunday, June 23
In the past few weeks we have been following Paul's correspondence with his parishioners in the churches of Galatia. Traditionally, this has been described as Paul's vehement argument about the importance of grace over against the law.
It could also be described as a conflict of vision. Paul saw the new community as one set free from all human enslavements--including the requirements of the law. The Jewish Christians from Jerusalem thought the new community needed first to follow rules and then be set free by grace. Both parties felt their vision was the correct one. A heated conflict resulted. It continued in all the churches that Paul founded.
Today this happens in churches. Churches either split apart or simply deny the differences. The latter simply wimp along into passive obscurity and slow death.
The problem is not that different visions exist, but that they are unacknowledged. In such a state, they cannot be evaluated for their worthiness or moral intent. They cannot be judged for their usefulness or relevance. Visions are life-giving or life-threatening (remember Jonestown and the Kool Aid).
The kingdom of God is the reigning vision for all Christians, but each community must examine and appropriate its own life as God's people in Christ. It is a hard but not impossible task.
We have set aside three months this summer for this discussion and dialogue. It will be fruitful as it helps us to prepare to discern where God is leading us.
Pastor Charles

JUNE MISSION FOCUS - TEDDY BEAR CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTER
Gary and Denise Pullen wish to express their thanks to Faith UP Church for allowing them to rent the former C. E. wing for the past 24 years and for the love and support this congregation has blessed them with.
Teddy Bear Child Development Center & Preschool is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization. As a United Way agency, they provide a valuable service to our community. Being a non-profit organization means just that. There's never any money left over at the end of each month. After 24 years, items wear out and need replaced. Prices on everything keep going up.
If you would like to make a donation to TBCDC, you may designate TBCDC on your pew envelope (or check) next Sunday, June 30. Your old cell phones, ink jet cartidges, and prayers are also needed.

Isabel Circle - TONIGHT
Meet at the church parking lot to form car pools, which will depart at 6:30 p.m. Crystal will have dinner ready for us at her house ** at 6:45 p.m.
Isabel Circle will meet on Thursday, June 27, 2013, for fellowship and Bible study. Lolla Ballard will facilitate Horizons Lesson 8: The Bad Seeds, which examines the concept of family dysfunction and disgrace in God's household from potentially destructive outside influences, such as false teachers, false gospels, and anti-christs, exhorting us to dig more deeply within ourselves to connect with sources of truth, hope, and faith, as we find in 1 John 2, 2 Peter 2-3, and Jude 1-16. Find out how Gnosticism and Marcionism contaminated the gospel with deviant messages around the issues of who Jesus is, how the Old Testament and New Testament are connected, and the relationship between matter and spirit. This is just too good to miss! ** 1488 215th Avenue, Cameron, IL - call 536-1170 if you need directions

Report: PNC Workshop in Galesburg
A group of seven people from our church who have an interest in the process of discerning whom God has chosen to lead us as our next pastor attended the PNC Workshop led by Executive Presbyter Sue Krummel at 1st Pres/Galesburg last Sunday afternoon. Rev. Kathy Stoner-Lasala and Rev. Charles Cunningham also participated, as did the pastors of a number of other churches represented at the workshop. The pastor perspective was particularly valuable as laymen sifted through lists of possible interview questions for candidates. The new pastor and two members of the PNC from Washington Presbyterian Church in Washington, IL shared their experiences as they moved toward discovering God's plans for their pastoral leadership in 2010.
A lovely lunch was provided by 1st Pres/Galesburg, and Sue 's reading from Acts and Philippians drove home the importance of prayer and letting the Holy Spirit lead in the process.
We had a short experiential lesson in group dynamics as folks at our table worked through an assignment whose goal was trying to reach a consensus on THE two most important interview questions from a list of over 50. Not only must members of a PNC be very committed and "have their heart in it" - they also need to be able to work together in a spirit of trust and harmony.
We also learned the answer to a very important question regarding conflict of interest issues when PNC members are also paid staff.
Sue's response was that "hiring your own boss is never a good idea," and that, while the PNC may consult staff members as part of their decision-making process, it is just too much conflict of interest for paid staff to serve on the PNC.

Thank You
Thank you, sincerely, to those of you who wrote inspirational notes to us on the youth mission trip recently. It was uplifting to see all the kids reading cards at the same time, and I know it made them feel special - because it made me feel special.
