You Have Been Heard
Because there were concerns voiced by members of the congregation about our tradition of not publicizing guest preachers' names for the upcoming Sunday in the church newsletter, the church secretary, as she promised, took the matter to session for a ruling. Thus, the decision was made by our governing body in an atmosphere of balanced discussion and discernment. Recognizing the importance of transparency, especially during our church's current period of transition, which naturally can be somewhat anxiety-filled, the session decided that the reasons for putting the guest preacher's name in the newsletter outweighed the reasons for not doing so; therefore, starting with this edition, you will see it listed. Please remember that much care goes into inviting guest preachers to our pulpit to preach God's word and that God is with us each and every Sunday. Also, please continue to make use of the sermon title and scripture texts as you prepare to congregate for Sunday worship.

Finally, the books of Peter and Paul will point us to relying on this hope in our daily lives today.
Lesson 1 can be found in the cabinet of our classroom. Reading it before the class session will help one's understanding and our discussion.

Mission Emphasis for March
Our mission emphasis for the month of March will be One Great Hour of Sharing (OGHS). There will be Minutes for Mission and special bulletin inserts on different agencies within the Presbyterian denomination, such as the Presbyterian Hunger Program, Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, and Self-Development of People, which benefit from the One Great Hour of Sharing funds. On Palm Sunday, March 24 and Easter Sunday, March 31, there will be special OGHS offering envelopes in the pews. The children will be saving for an offering using the fish coin banks. |
Dearest church family,
You always pull through in times of need, and I'm so proud to say that you are my church family! Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for not only making a salad or dessert for the Robinson Soup Supper last Saturday, but for also attending. I saw many of you there... Thank You!
As you can imagine, the Robinson family was very emotional and overwhelmed by the support that evening. During tragedy, despair seems imminent. I believe, however, this supper made a world of difference to them and gave them a sense of "community". We were pleased to be able to hand them over around $2,200.00 from donations that night.
Thanks be to God!
With love,
Heather Fisher

"All Things Possible Tour" - April 7
John and Angie Louden, of Macomb, IL are in the latter stages of adopting a 2-year-old boy from China. They hope to travel in the next 6-8 weeks to pick him up and bring him into their family.
International adoption is a rather expensive venture and they are hosting Mark Schultz's "All Things Possible Tour" with Aaron Shust and Jonny Diaz as a fund-raiser at the Memorial Auditorium in Burlington, IA on April 7, 2013. Mark Schultz is a very popular contemporary Christian artist with a huge fan base who was himself adopted and has a huge heart for adoption and for orphans around the world. Look for one of their posters around the church.

More Drivers Needed
Dave Spoerl asks that anyone who would like to help with making possible his weekly trip to Kewanee to see his wife, Eilleen at Royal Oaks Rehab, to please contact the church office at 734-5129. He is very willing to pay gas expenses for the trip. His concern is that right now there are only three people taking turns driving him, and he would like to give them a bit of a break. If you feel called to take on this ministry of care, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
