The Adult Bible Study Class will begin meeting on March 17th in the Bride's Room across from the chapel at 9:15 a.m. All adults are welcome to attend this discussion group.
This unit, Undying Hope, will last until June. It begins with the Old Testament concept of eternal hope as found in the Book of Daniel, followed by the new hope of the early Christians following Jesus' Resurrection. Finally, the books of Peter and Paul will point us to relying on this hope in our daily lives today.
Lesson 1 can be found in the cabinet of our classroom. Reading it before the class session will help one's understanding and our discussion.
Do come and join us.
Faith & Life - Poetry of Faith
For the month of February and extending through the first week of March, Rob Hale has been leading the Faith and Life Sunday School Class on the subject of faith and poetry. Each week, we examine a different poet and see how he or she approaches issues of faith. Rob gives an overview of each poet's life, reads poems aloud, and leads a discussion of each poem. We will be doing Gerard Manley Hopkins this final week. No special knowledge of poetry is required. This class will meet in the church library or Social Hall.
Sunday School Teachers 4-5-6th grades - The "We Believe" curriculum for older elementary for the spring quarter, which starts March 3, has now arrived. It is available in the "Sunday School" bin in the CE director's office.

Church Women United - World Day of Prayer - March 1
About World Day of Prayer
World Day of Prayer is a worldwide ecumenical movement of Christian women of many traditions who come together to observe a common day of prayer and action each year on the first Friday in March. Each year a different country serves as the writer of the World Day of Prayer worship service, interpreting the Bible in their own context, and lifting up issues of mission, justice and peace that are important to them. Offerings collected during the services are granted by WDP national committees to nonprofit organizations that deal with the issues identified by the writer-country. The WDP motto is "Informed prayer, prayerful action."
The local World Day of Prayer service is Friday, March 1st at 1:30 p.m. at First Lutheran Church, 116 South B Street, in Monmouth. The building is handicap accessible. There will be daycare available.

More Drivers Needed
Dave Spoerl asks that anyone who would like to help with making possible his weekly trip to Kewanee to see his wife, Eilleen at Royal Oak Rehab, to please contact the church office at 734-5129. He is very willing to pay gas expenses for the trip. His concern is that right now there are only three people taking turns driving him, and he would like to give them a bit of a break. If you feel called to take on this ministry of care, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Isabel Circle - Thursday, February 28
Isabel Circle will meet at the home of Lolla Ballard at 119 South 7th Street in Monmouth tonight, Thursday, February 28, at 7:00 p.m. All members and friends of the church are welcome to join the group. Vicki Briscoe will be the facilitator for Lesson 5: The Ties That Bind from the 2012-2013 Horizons Bible Study: Dispatches to God's Household: The General Epistles. In Lesson 5, God calls us to model non-coercive love in all relationships, including marital relationships. The lesson examines Chapter 3 of 1 Peter in order to uncover aspects of the Epistle's message that allow for the possibility of a more egalitarian understanding of godly male-female relationships.

Gifts of Women Sunday
This year we will celebrate Gifts of Women Sunday on March 3. We wonder how Christ withstood his 40 days of trial in the wilderness. We recall the words of the prophet Isaiah: "Behold, I made him a witness to the peoples...Seek the Lord while he may be found, call upon him while he is near..." (Isaiah 55: 4, 6)
Women of Faith will conduct the service. The instrumental trio Grace Notes will provide special music. Our guest minister, the Rev. Dr. B. Kathleen Fannin, will preach on Jesus' request, "Give Me a Drink" (John 4:7). We hope the departure from our ordinary routine will serve to remind us that Christ's call to ministry is a personal call to each and every one of us.
Potluck
Please join us in Fellowship Hall following the service for a meal. Drinks will be provided. Please bring a dish to share and your own table service.
