November 21, 2012 HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
|
|
Dear Friends:
The author of Ecclesiastes reminds us: "For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven..." After months of consideration and prayer, Margie and I have come to the realization the time has come to request the dissolution of my call as your pastor.
"Why?" Having considered my pastoral relationships with the members of our congregation; our community and college; and, my colleagues in presbytery, as well as the needs of our family, we believe this decision is in accordance with the will of God and in the best interest of all concerned. While I am grateful for the opportunities we have had in serving Christ with each of you, sharing your sorrows and joys, seeing God work within you and through you, I am mindful there may be others better prepared to lead you in a deeper commitment to worship, evangelism, and stewardship in your service to Christ.
Therefore, on Sunday, November 18, I accepted a call to be the pastor and head of staff of The Presbyterian Church of Traverse City, Michigan. We will have a congregational meeting on Sunday, December 2, for the purpose of dissolving our call. With the holiday season approaching, and the administrative responsibilities at the start of the new year, the session will recommend Sunday, January 27, 2013 to be my last Sunday, while my last day of employment will be Thursday, January 31.
While the move to Traverse City will provide a wonderful opportunity for professional growth, please know that had we believed our departure would be detrimental to the future ministry of Faith United, we would not have been able to discern this new call. Over the past couple of years, we have come to believe God is preparing for a new day in your life together. We wish you Godspeed and we are grateful knowing you will do the same for us.
Sincerely,
William C. Myers

Dear Family of Faith,
After reading the letter from Bill, you know we will be moving to Traverse City, Michigan. Will and I will be staying in Monmouth, until after Will graduates. We will go to Michigan in June. Because we are part of the pastor's family, I have to resign from my job at the church at the same time Bill does. This means I will resign as Christian Education Director and Wednesday Night Live Director on January 31. The Christian Education committee and Session will determine how to fill my position so the programs we have developed together may continue without a problem.
While I am excited for the adventure of our move and future ministry, I have spent the last several Sunday's wiping away tears as I think about missing out on the lives of people I care very much about. I will especially miss watching your children grow up. They are very dear to me. I hope they will continue to be active at Faith and in the development of their faith.
I would also like to thank you for caring about and helping us raise our own children, Elizabeth and Will. Monmouth will always be the most special place we have ever lived. Not only did Bill and I meet here and attend Faith UPC as college students, but our children grew up and graduated in Monmouth. They are so much richer for having known all of you, as are we.
Thank you for your love and support throughout these important years in our life together.
Margie Myers

We will continue our 2012 advent theme by exploring what the Bible really says about angels, including their service to God and their ministry to people.

Gift of the Heart ♥ Kits
Thank you so much for the terrific response we've received regarding our Gift of the Heart Kits! There is still time to donate if you'd like. And, since we have more of some things than others, I've compiled a list of items we still need to even out our kits.
18 t-shirts - no onsies 15 sleepers 20 diaper pins - I've checked and they have these at KMart in Galesburg. 5 sweaters or sweatshirts 8 receiving blankets.
It looks like we are going to be able to send quite a few kits, thanks to all of you!

Necktie Angels
Do you have a necktie which belonged to a loved one? Are you wondering what to do with it or why you're keeping it around? We can solve your dilemma! Bring your tie to the Advent Fair on November 28. Join us for supper at 5:15, and then we will spend time together at 6:00 making your tie into an angel to be displayed at Christmas or all year through. Yes, a little cutting will occur, but the integrity of the tie will remain. We will have extra ties available. If you have extras or want to make gifts for your family, bring them all along. This project doesn't take long and you will come away with a forever keepsake.

Angel Display
The Faith & Arts committee would like to open the doors of our church to the community for an Angel display in December. If you would be willing to loan us some of your beautiful or unusual Angel's, please sign up on the office door: If you have an angel to share with us, please bring it to the church by Thursday, November 29. There will be a form to fill out with information about your angel, where you got it, and any story you have about it. Thank you. (We need to know whether we have enough scenes to make this possible.)

Lights of Love
In the spirit of the Holidays, the OSF Holy Family Medical Center Auxiliary of Monmouth is again sponsoring a "Lights of Love" tree to provide an opportunity to honor or remember those we love and cherish. Contributions will be represented by our "Lights of Love" tree. You may wish to honor or remember friends or family with a $5.00 per person donation, and/or a larger gift of your choice. Names of those being honored and remembered, along with the names of the donors will be recorded in the "Lights of Love" book, located in the hospital's west lobby. A special section will be included in the book recognizing those individuals or organizations contributing $50.00 or more. The "Lights of Love" tree will be lit on December 3, 2012, and will remain lit through the month of December representing the donations received for the "Lights of Love". |
