Minute for Mission
Think about this...
You've just lost everything. Your house is gone, your car is gone, all of your pictures, all of your possessions...GONE!
You have a family to care for and can't even provide them with basic needs like diapers, a sweater, a warm blanket, soap, a toothbrush, or towel. These may seem like trivial needs to you and I, but in the larger scope of things, these simple items can show a person a little compassion and glimpse of hope in a natural disaster.
Next Sunday, our youth will be putting together, "Gifts of the Heart Kits" to be sent off to Presbyterian Disaster Assistance to help supply hygiene and baby kits to those that were affected by Hurricane Sandy.
But, we need your help!!!
In an article below, you will see a list of items that we would like for you to purchase and drop off in the church office. We know that it may be difficult for some of you to go out shopping for these items, so if it helps, we'd be happy to do the shopping for you!
Make no mistake - these needs are great! Please stand in the GAP (Give, Act, Pray) and help bring hope to affected families and communities.
Holy God, You are our comfort and strength in times of sudden disaster, crisis, or chaos. By your Spirit, lift up those who have fallen, sustain those who work to rescue or rebuild, and surround us now with your grace and peace to face the challenges ahead. Grant us the assurance of your presence even in this time of uncertainty, and fill us with the hope of your new creation; through Jesus Christ, our rock and redeemer. Amen.

Did you know...thirty-four of the Bible's sixty-six books talk about angels in detail? Every New Testament writer confirms their existence. Jesus himself referred to angels as real beings who were involved in every realm of human activity.
We will continue our 2012 advent theme by exploring what the Bible really says about angels, including their service to God and their ministry to people.
Bible Study: Will meet in the brides room across from the chapel just outside the social hall.

Thank Offering
In the 1880's, Eliza Clokey saw an urgent ministry need that was not being met, and she began the Thank Offering, asking all Presbyterian women to think of a special blessing in their lives and give something above their usual contributions to meet that need - support for our church's worldwide missionary project. That spirit of initiative lives on. Do you see a need and have an idea of what must be done to minister to God's people? Apply for a Thank Offering grant.
PW's Creative Ministries Offering Committee meets annually to review applications. This year's recipients are posted on the Thank Offering bulletin board in Social Hall.
Every year PW receives and distributes the Thank Offering, with roughly 40% going to health programs and the remainder to new ministry initiatives. This Sunday, November 18, we are asking you to again, give something above your usual contribution. Give thanks!

Thanksgiving Potluck - Sunday, November 18
Our annual thanksgiving gathering as a church family will be Sunday, November 18, in the Social Hall following worship. Please bring a dish to share and your own table service. As we celebrate our blessings with a feast, let us also share our bounty with our neighbors by bringing boxed or canned goods for the Jamieson Community Center pantry.

Gift of the Heart ♥ Kits
What a blessing it is to be a part of a faith community of so many generous and compassionate people. In the wake of many natural disasters here in the United States, we've had so many of you send money, donate your time through mission trips, and put various kits together. During the Mississippi flooding several years ago, we even had a group of youth sandbag and do yard cleanup in the Keithsburg area through Presbyterian Disaster Assistance. For this, we are thankful! We have the opportunity to act once again, in response to the massive devastation on the east coast, pull our resources together to help others in need through Presbyterian Disaster Assistance. We will be collecting two different kinds of kits that the youth will assemble on November 25, to help those afflicted in places like New Jersey. If you would please choose from the following list of items to donate and turn in to the office by Sunday, November 25, you will be making a difference in someone's life this holiday season. Hygiene Kit Baby Kit 1 hand towel (approx. 16" x 28", no fingertip 6 cloth diapers* or bath towels) 2 t-shirts or undershirts (no onesies) 1 washcloth 2 washcloths 1 wide-tooth comb 2 gowns or sleepers 1 nail clipper 2 diaper pins 1 bar of soap 1 sweater or sweatshirt 1 toothbrush 2 receiving blankets (one can be knitted 6 Band-Aids or other adhesive bandage strips or crocheted baby blanket) (approximate cost $10) (approximate cost $39) *Note: cloth diapers are not common, but are necessary. 12-packs of cloth diapers can be purchased at Target and many Sears stores. If you have any questions, or would like to make a donation, please contact Heather. Thank you!

Necktie Angels

Join us for supper at 5:15, and then we will spend time together at 6:00 making your tie into an angel to be displayed at Christmas or all year through. Yes, a little cutting will occur, but the integrity of the tie will remain. We will have extra ties available. If you have extras or want to make gifts for your family, bring them all along. This project doesn't take long and you will come away with a forever keepsake.
