Featured Article - DRIVE TEXAS - Online Highway Information Map |
DRIVE TEXAS - An All-New Online Highway Information MapIn an effort to give travelers easier access to pertinent road condition reports, the Texas Department of Transportation has launched DRIVE TEXAS, a new mobile friendly Highway Conditions map. Launched June 20th, Drive Texas, at www.drivetexas.org, displays statewide conditions affecting travel, including construction, closures, accidents and live weather feeds to give drivers the tools they need to check travel conditions before they hit the road. The mobile-friendly site also allows travelers to find a nearby Safety Rest Area or Texas Travel Information Center. In Select Cities, they also can view traffic camera images, messages posted on dynamic message signs and more detailed information for the traveling public. Drive Texas offers a more modern, robust, user-friendly interface that inputs information right at users' fingertips in an easy-to-find format. The application also may be accessed by clicking on the "Highway Conditions" link on the www.txdot.gov home page.

RECIPE: Gingerbread Cookies |
Here's a Christmas favorite to bake and shared during the holidays! These gingerbread cookies come out soft and flavorful with tastes of ginger and cinnamon, guaranteed to fill anyone with the Christmas Spirit! Enjoy!
Gingerbread Cookies
- 6 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 tablespoon ground ginger
- 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
|
- 1 cup shortening, melted and cooled slightly
- 1 cup molasses
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
|
Sift together the flour, baking powder, ginger, nutmeg, cloves, and cinnamon; set aside.- In a medium bowl, mix together the shortening, molasses, brown sugar, water, egg, and vanilla until smooth. Gradually stir in the dry ingredients, until they are completely absorbed. Divide dough into 3 pieces, pat down to 1 1/2 inch thickness, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 3 hours.
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough out to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut into desired shapes with cookie cutters. Place cookies 1 inch apart onto an ungreased cookie sheet.
- Bake for 10 to 12 minutes in the preheated oven. When the cookies are done, they will look dry, but still be soft to the touch. Remove from the baking sheet to cool on wire racks. When cool, the cookies can be frosted with the icing of your choice.

TECH TIP: Finding and Repairing Leaks on Your RV
|
Instructions for Finding and Repairing Leaks on Your RV
Leaks on an RV are the probably the worst thing that can happen to it. Checking your sealants on an annual basis is a must and should never be ignored. About every 3 months most manufacturers recommend that the roof and other sealants be checked.
The process is really very simple, walk around the exterior of the coach and check for any voids or gaps in the sealant and note where each one is located. Once the entire coach has been checked go back clean off the old sealant in areas that need to be resealed, clean all areas before sealing any of them that way once the silicone is open you can keep sealing without having to put the tube down until the sealing is finished. There are several different types of sealant that can be used on the sides of the coach, the easiest to work with is silicone. After doing the sides of the coach we are ready to move to the roof. As before check the entire roof for any gaps or voids in the sealant, clean any areas that need to be sealed with soap and water and let dry before attempting to seal (the old caulk can be sealed over on a rubber roof it does not have to be stripped totally only remove any loose sealant), then go back and seal all the areas that were cleaned previously. The roof sealant needs to be a sealant that is okay to use on rubber roofs, we recommend dicor roof sealant. After all is sealed, sit back, relax, and start planning your next RV trip!
