Students worldwide sign landmark declaration to unite in a global student voice
BRUSSELS - The European Students' Union (ESU) is glad to announce its formal adoption of the «The Bergen Declaration» a global declaration drafted by student activists from South America, North America, Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Pacific in May 2016. The Norwegian Students' Union (NSO) and the European Students' Union (ESU) jointly took the initiative to compose, together with students from across the globe, a document which demonstrates a statement of values for a global student voice.
ESU to obtain consultative status before the United Nations
The Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations, standing committee of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations, agreed to recommend the European Students' Union for consultative status. This will be instrumental for ESU on its work on protecting students' rights and on our contribution to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.
ESU joins forces with Scholars at Risk network
ESU has become, the newest affiliate of the Scholars at Risk network, for better protecting scholars and promoting academic freedom around the world. ESU also joined forces with SAR and other partners in urging the UN Human Rights Council to give strong consideration when appointing the next Special Rapporteur on the Right to Education to the concerns of higher education.
Students welcome new EU Visa Directive
 We welcome the steps forward to make EU education systems more accessible to non-EU students. Yesterday, the European Parliament approved   harmonised EU entry and residence rules for non-EU students - a new Visa Directive that will ensure that non-EU students have the right to stay at least 9 months after finishing their studies; the right to move within the EU during their stay and the right to work at least 15 hours a week.
ESU at European Youth Event EYE2016 
Between 20-21 May 2016, we were in Strasbourg representing students at the European Youth Event (EYE). During the event, ESU Executive Committee members: Liva Vikmane and Rebecka Stenkvist gave presentations and stirred discussions on the effect of TTIP on higher education, the negative effects of commodification of education and, respectively, on ways to make education more accessible for all and inclusive.

HousErasmus+: Your support needed for new project on international students'
When it comes to studying abroad, international students often encounter difficulties in finding accommodation and the communication platforms designed to help them are not always optimal. For this reason, HousErasmus+ project aims to identify all the challenges and best practices that students and trainees face when they are looking for an accommodation abroad. Based on these information, recommendations will be made, based on insight gained through research, study visits, surveys and conferences that can be presented to the policy makers also on European level to increase mobility.

Project News
PASCL Final Conference on Student-Centred Learning
Hosted at the University Foundation premises in Brussels, the Final PASCL Conference put forward results of the project, such as the new peer assessment framework for "student-centeredness" of a higher education institution. Project participants presented examples of teaching incorporating elements of student-centred learning and university best practices. The conference ended with the award ceremony, where institutions were rewarded for successfully implementing SCL in their education strategy.
ESU at QUAEM Final Conference - towards improved quality assurance in Moldovan HEI
Between 19 - 20 May 2016, ESU participated in QUAEM Final Conference in Chisinau, Moldova. The project aims at making Quality Assurance at Moldovan Higher Education Institutions (HEI) functional and conducive to HEI strategy development
ESPAQ: Students' Involvement in Quality Assurance in Armenia
Two meetings meetings will be held in May 2016 under the ESPAQ project - Enhancing Student Participation in Quality Assurance in Armenia Higher Education.
