THE STUDENT VOICE
The European Students' Union monthly newsletter
Issue: August 2015

Dear readers,

Like every year, July is a month that marks a transition and a new beginning: hacks handover, start of new board mandate, but also internal changes to facilitate communications flows, such as the migration of users and internal documents to Google Apps and, as you can see, a brand new responsive newsletter design. This way,  you can enjoy reading our newsletter on your mobile / tablet or desktop, no matter the size.

We are glad to announce the launch of the 30th European Students' Convention, which will take place in Brussels between 28-30 September. You will have the chance to meet high-level EU policy-makers and higher education professionals and discuss topics such as student-centered learning, decisions shaping higher education policies in Europe, such as the Yerevan Comunique and Paris Declaration, as well the future steps to build a stronger European higher education area.

Stay tuned for more information to come in the following weeks and in the meantime, we wish you a pleasant reading and of course, happy holidays!

Best wishes to all,
ESU team

United Nations Human Rights Council (HRC) passed a Resolution on the Right to Education
On July 2, the United Nations Human Rights Council (HRC) passed Resolution 29/14 on the right to education, including substantially the language we sought on State responsibility to protect higher education from attack. Specifically, the Resolution states at page 4, paragraph 8:
What will be the Influence of TTIP on the Education Sector in the EU?
ESU is glad to see that the Parliament voted on Helga Trüpels' amendement with 373 votes in favour, 336 against and 1 abstention. This means that the European Parliament officially calls the European Commission to exclude non-profit educational services from the scope of the TTIP.
Education International 7th World Congress
EI and ESU have been partners for many years, notably within the Bologna Process, but also in the defence of education as a common good. ESU's participation at the Congress helped highlight the common causes that students and teachers have, while also laying the grounds for further cooperation between the two unions within areas such as public responsibility and the post-2015 process.

Improving ESU Internal Communications: Migrating to Google Apps
To improve internal communications between our board, member unions and stakeholders and because technology should not make work more difficult than it is, but easier and faster; ESU decided to move all internal documents and email hosting to Google Apps for Work.

From now on, Alfresco Backoffice and ESU webmail systems will not be used anymore. All users were invited to sign in to their new Google accounts, through which they can have access to Board Meeting Documents and other materials shared on Google Drive. Please note that your email address will remain the same (using the domain @esu-online.org).
