Reaction to the new Erasmus+ Student and Alumni Association (ESAA)-
Only students speak for students
BRUSSELS - Today the executive branch of European Commission DG EAC launched the new Erasmus+ Student and Alumni Association (ESAA) in connection with the much criticised Erasmus Masters loan scheme.  EAC claims the new association will represent over 3 million Erasmus+ students in the period until 2020. The European Students Union calls foul on this so-called "representation".
Placing Students at the Heart of Quality Assurance
Student participation in quality assurance has been one of the success stories of the student participation in higher education governance and Bologna process in general. This has been acknowledged in the European Standards and Guidelines (ESG)  since 2005 - at institutional level, external reviews and in quality assurance governance. Still, it must be remembered that there is a marked difference between formal and active involvement of students in quality assurance. Thus, the recognition of students as full and active stakeholders in quality assurance processes will remain an issue.

Will Legal Notice 150 affect the University of Malta?
During this past year, the Education sector in Malta was faced with a number of reforms to promote a pluralistic provision in Further and Higher Education. In light of this, on the 8th of May 2015 a new Legal Notice (LN150 of 2015) was tabled in Parliament by the Minister for Education and Employment, which led to substantial modifications being made to a Subsidiary Legislation which rules the requirements for Further and Higher Education Institution to gain the University Status. This new Legal Notice led to a situation of reducing the requirements for institutions to be recognised as Universities.
