Public funds are instrumental in ensuring public responsibility

VILNIUS - Several reforms have been introduced to higher education systems in Europe in the past few years because of reduced public funding, as thirty Directors-General responsible for higher education in the EU/EFTA member states discussed in their meeting in Vilnius, Lithuania, on 23 and 24 September. Their discussions focused on issues such as sustainability, efficiency and equity of higher education.

A new survey unveils students' perspectives on the quality of their education

BRUSSELS - University students expect first and foremost to gain a personal growth from higher education and to learn more about issues that they find to be interesting and are taught by specialists in each field. The European Students' Union (ESU) published on 9 September the results of a new study, showing that students favour a higher education system that is characterised by a freedom to learn, teach and research and has an intrinsic value of knowledge over more consumerist views. ESU denounces hate speech

BRUSSELS - Students, especially those of a migrant or ethnic minority background, LGBTQ, disabled and of a lower economic status, can often be victims of hate speech at their universities.
