BLED - A new political leadership at the European Students' Union (ESU) starts its mandate on 1 July. The Executive Committee, composed of ten members, welcomes five new members that were elected at the 64th Board Meeting of ESU held in Budapest, Hungary.

Internal structural reforms, the Bologna process and major negotiations at the European Union on a new long term programme for education and youth have been at the heart of ESU's activities for the past year. This has been recognised by the Ministers responsible for higher education in Europe, who committed to collect and share data on the social dimension of higher education and to participate in a peer learning process in the Bucharest Communiqué in 2012. FinSt project findings used in a European Council stimulation

Students' worries neglected in an agreement on Erasmus+

BRUSSELS - Many critical points that were raised by students in relation to a new programme of the European Union for education and youth from 2014 to 2020 have not been taken into account. On Wednesday, the European Council reached an agreement that would allocate only 14.5 billion euros to this proposal called Erasmus+ out of the 960 billion euro budget of the EU. A controversial idea of a new loan guarantee facility would receive 3.5 per cent out of the budget for Erasmus+, or 450 million euros. Go to full article
