CRS Social Action Initiative:

E-Advocacy

July E-Advocacy Opportunity - Call for a Vote on the Smarter Sentencing Act: Congress is considering the Smarter Sentencing Act (S.1410/H.R.3382), a bipartisan bill aimed at reforming federal mandatory minimum sentencing laws. The bill would create fairer sentencing laws, make the federal criminal justice system more cost-effective and improve public safety.  The Senate Judiciary Committee passed the Smarter Sentencing Act by a bipartisan vote of 13-5 in January 2014 .  But since then, despite increased pressure from advocates, the bill has yet to be called for a vote of the full Senate.  Click here  to ask your members of Congress to take action.

On-going E-Advocacy: Sometimes e-advocacy opportunities arise that need quick action; legislative action will occur prior to our ability to inform you in our next monthly e-blast.  If you would like to receive notification of these pressing e-advocacy issues,

click here  to opt in to a special email action list.  You will receive e-advocacy email alerts on an "as needed" basis (on average twice a month - though sometimes a little more and other times a little less, as needs fluctuate).
