Nathaniel Morton Elementary News

Over the past couple of weeks, some of Nathaniel Morton Elementary grade four classrooms have shared their artifact boxes that detail important facts of a particular state in the USA. When visiting these projects students and staff were treated to artifact boxes that included geographic features such as landforms, climate, natural resources, agriculture, state flag, tourist attractions, a famous person from the state and some fun facts. These boxes were proudly displayed for students and staff to enjoy. Each viewer who stopped by was treated to displays that were colorful and informative. While visiting each state project, students listened as grade four students shared their expertise on their state.

iPad Apps in the Art Studio

At NMES in the Art Studio, 5th grade artists have been creating some amazing stuffed animals, we call them "Stuffies". These stuffies were based on the artists study of Kachina Dolls of the Hopi people in their social studies class. The artists had to think about what positive 'power' would be associated with their "Stuffy". Once the artists were done creating and sewing their Stuffy, the artists used the FaceTalker app to bring their Stuffy to life. The app takes a picture and then you can add a moving mouth and an audio recording. It was so fun to see the Stuffies come to life!

Note from the Nurse

School Health Services at PSMS will be conducting Postural Screenings next Wednesday, February 12th.  The purpose of this screening is to detect early signs of possible spinal problems. This is not a diagnostic service but a screening to identify students who should have further medical evaluation.

The screening will be conducted during the student's scheduled Physical Education class.  We ask that female students wear either a swimsuit top or sports bra under their school clothes on the day of the screening. This type of clothing permits a more accurate observation of your child's spine.

Thank you for your cooperation in this matter and if you have any questions please feel free to call the PSMS Health Office at 508 224-2725.

Gemini 6 Celebrates  Anti-Bullying /No Name Calling Week

On January 24, 2014 Gemini 6th grade students participated in two different team-building activities in honor of  Anti-Bullying/No Name Calling week. For the first activity, we created bandages with our names on them and then asked our classmates to write positive qualities and nice things about each other. When the bandages were complete we taped them to our lockers. The bandages helped us to realize that saying nice about to other people makes us feel good.

We also traced our bodies and created paper 6th graders. Each paper 6th grader is wearing a badge that pledges not to bully.  We hung the the paper 6th graders in the hallway holding hands to show that everyone is different but we all are friends!

Brought to you by Brady Sorenson and Gemini 6!
