Club Invention
Club Invention is coming to Plymouth this summer! This program will run for just one action-packed week only. Each day, children will work in teams as they rotate between four fun thematic modules. Each module brings new challenges to build upon what was learned the previous day. Your child will:
-collaborate to build prototypes, following the example of National Inventors Hall of Fame inductees;
-upcycle and re-engineer with gears and gadgets, developing critical-thinking skills and creativity; and
-explore STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) enrichment, motivating a group to develop solutions to real-world problems.
The program will run for one week only at PCIS, July 7-11, 2014, from 9:00 am - 3:30 pm each day. Students entering grades 1-6 are eligible. The cost of this program is $245.

A Time of Giving
During the holidays, there are many students who bring in gifts for the staff at South Elementary School. We thoroughly appreciate this kindness and thoughtfulness each and every year. This year, however, we asked families to consider giving to those in need instead of giving staff members gifts. As a staff and as a school, we collected socks, mittens and hats for children and families that needed these items. We are so proud to report that our school for collected a grand total of 169 mittens, 112 hats and 333 pairs of socks!

Friday, January 10, 2014 Plymouth North High School Football
Congratulations to coach Kevin Cobban, he was named WATD Atlantic Coast League Coach of the Year.
Plymouth North Physical Education News As the semester comes to a close we wanted to share a few reminders. Finals/midterms begin Friday January 17th. All PE classes are required to give a final and it will count as 20% of students' semester grade. PE is a semester class therefore students are allowed only 9 unexcused absences before being denied credit. Please check your child's ASPEN account if you think they may be in danger of credit denial. If you have any paper work (doctor notes, etc.) that would excuse your student's absences please send them into student services as soon as possible. As we look forward to the upcoming winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia we are hosting our own winter games. Students have created their own teams, team captain, and team names. Each day teams compete against one another in both individual and team sports. A daily score is being kept and gold medal winners will be crowned next week. Look for results and photos of the III rd Plymouth North Olympiad in the next issue of Voyager.
Pinch Pot Workshop

 Students in Lauren Jezierski's Ceramics 2 course participated in day 1 of their Pinch pot Workshop. To prepare for the field trip students were organized into 3 groups- Demo (create demo pieces), Instruction (prepare to demonstrate techniques), and Supply (organize supplies necessary). There were 9 participants in the workshop, all of them female. Some had experience with clay, and others did not. The students did a great job going through the instructions clearly and working side by side offering help when necessary. They made connections with the seniors- asking them questions, discussing school, and the holidays. Friday Dec 20th we returned with the work fired. Students set up the counter with paint, glaze and other supplies. As participants arrived, students helped them find their art on the cart, and then gave instruction on the various supplies we brought to finish their work. Students assisted in the glazing process and described how the kilns worked. Everyone painted or glazed their artwork while conversation came back to holidays and school. Students and the seniors shared recipes and traditions. One woman who was not in the workshop also stopped by and shared a poem she had written when she was 16. She still had it memorized and recited it for our group. As the workshop came to an end, artwork was once again loaded onto the cart, students cleaned the room, and a handout was given to participants with the dates their work would be up on display at Golden Gull Studios. The workshop was a success- both students and seniors requested more collaboration! Project Growth Invited to Attend Bridgewater State University's TAB Program Plymouth North Project Growth students have been invited to attend Bridgewater State University's TAB program. The TAB program gives special education students (ages 19-22) in school districts in programs similar to Project Growth a chance to attend a class every other Friday at Bridgewater State University campus. Our students will be exposed to the campus as well as take a class from one of the teachers whose students are also attending. The program begins in January and is a great opportunity for our students by giving them a sense of independence and a taste of college life while working on the necessary functional skills they continue to practice daily.
