Introducing Voyager Express
Over the past 5 years, the Plymouth Public Schools has sent out a weekly newsletter. We've also released the first edition (Spring/ Summer) of the Plymouth Voyager, a magazine intended to highlight in-depth news from around the district. I have decided to integrate the Friday newsletter, formerly known as Friday Notes, as a sister publication of the Plymouth Voyager and reintroduce it as the - Voyager Express. Please Enjoy.

In Mrs. Shay's class and Mrs. Kneller's computer lab we have been working on wring workshop and recording our stories in Little Bird Tales. Our Little Bird Tales are real stories that happened.
We wrote COPS, an acronym on the side of our papers to help us make our final draft, then we recorded our stories in Mrs. Kneller's lab with our helper Mrs. Pizzi. We read our stories into a microphone on the computer...they came out...awesome!! Go see our website online to hear our stories that we recorded and hear our voices at

South Elementary School put on their annual Harvest Festival a couple of weeks ago. A group of the raffle winners cashed in on their prize this morning. Students dined in the teachers lounge and were served by the second grade team. The teachers enjoyed catching up with former and current students over breakfast. The winners displayed impressive manners and seemed to really enjoy themselves. We would like to send a HUGE thank you out to all the PTA members and parent volunteers who helped to make this year's Harvest Festival a successful one. We would also like to thank the PTA for all the positive contributions they make to South Elementary School.

iPads in the Art Studio
At the NMES Art Studio students in grades 2-5 have been using the school ipad minis to take photographs of their artistic masterpieces. The students use an online art gallery called Artsonia (artsonia.com). The students use the app on the ipad mini to photograph, enhance and crop their work so it looks its best. The students can then add titles and artist's statements right on the Artsonia app. Students love to write and tell others about how they made their work and what it means to them.
Then, the students click "upload" and their work is added to their online portfolio. Many students from NMES now have several pieces on artsonia.com. In past years adult volunteers have had to photograph work. But now with the ipad minis the students have the power and knowledge to photograph their work, add information and educate others about art!

Friday October 18th was a fun and exciting night for the NMES community, celebrating the traditional Halloween Haunt hosted by the PTA. Many Families came dressed up in their favorite Halloween costume to enjoy a festive evening. There were many activities for the students of all ages to participate in. Located in the library, students decorated crafts of the season to bring home. In the gym, there was a DJ, who hosted games and a dance off. The students grooved to a beat in the conga line and did the limbo! Families filled the halls of the school and enjoyed dancing together. Everyone in attendance had a blast!

The Day of the Dead Celebration
The second floor 8th grade team spent November 1 celebrating Dia de los Muertos, The Day of the Dead. This Mexican holiday has spread throughout much of the Hispanic community worldwide. It is a two day event during which everyone remembers and commemorates deceased loved ones in a positive, festive atmosphere. The students rotated through 6 stations where they made Pan de Muerto (Bread of the Dead), Papel Picada (cut paper banners), Matchbook Memorials, La Calaca (skeleton) figures, paper flowers, and gravestone epitaphs. They watched an excellent short video at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jCQnUuq-TEE which set the tone for the day. As a cross curricular activity the day encompassed the arts and academics. Students were encouraged to discuss the concept with their families and to bring in an image of a deceased person who had an influence on their life or on the life of their family in general. These images and family stories were used on the student created Matchbook Memorials. In addition they decorated the halls with their creations for the entire school to view.

Veteran's Day Assembly
On Friday the Plymouth North History Department, Student Council, and Team Inspire hosted a Veterans Day Assembly. The school honored members of the Plymouth Community that served in the armed forces. It was a second annual event and the number of veterans in attendance doubled from last year. The Band, Chorus and Northern Lights each preformed in honor of the veterans. The feedback from students, teachers and especially veterans was extremely positive. Four of the veterans spoke and shared experiences, inspiration, and gratitude with the audience. Following the assembly there was a luncheon and students were able to sit with the veterans and ask them questions and speak with them one on one. It was a wonderful event and a wonderful reminder of what our veterans have done and continue doing for all of us.

Senior Octoberfest
Due to the forecast of inclement weather, the Octoberfest celebration was changed again. Seniors will be given the opportunity to celebrate in the spring. Principal McSweeney went ahead with the pizza party, class picture and pumpkin decorating and a good time was had by all.

PLYMOUTH SOUTH'S ATHLETES-OF-THE WEEK
The G & G/PSHS Female Athlete of-the-Week is senior Samantha Bazarewsky. Bazarewsky is a defensive specialist in Varsity Volleyball and has been one of the main reasons we are 17-1 and currently ACL champs. Nothing gets by Bazarewsky in the back row with104 good serve receives and 55 digs. She is a great player and a great captain. Congratulations! Excellent work Sam!
The G & G/PSHS Male Athlete of-the-Week is junior Jacob McKenna. McKenna has shown steady improvement throughout the season. After missing a week of practice as a result of having pneumonia, he set a personal record on the home course in our last meet against Nauset. During the League Meet Championship last Saturday, McKenna set another personal record of 18:42. With this performance, he received a medal which put him in the league's top 20. McKenna can always be counted on to be one of the team's leaders. Terrific job Jake! Congratulations!
Panther TV was broadcasting live this week from the lobby of Plymouth South High School!!
Our annual culinary "Boo-fet" at Plymouth South in the Southside Café was a success. Thanks to all who got involved.
Each month at Plymouth South High School one male and one female student is celebrated as "Student of the Month". Students are chosen on their actions, as well as academic merits for that month. They have several awards to choose from.
This month's male "Student of the Month" is Kyle Richard who stands proudly beside the newly created sign (thanks to South's own Metal Fab Department) designating his choice of award.
Marisa Kanter was also chosen and opted for the $12 gift certificate to Culinary Southside Faire Restaurant.
Lou-Anne Contoy's Oceanography and AP Biology students volunteered to meet the teacher at Ellisville Harbor State Park to help with Plymouth Town Clean-Up on Saturday, November 3rd.
They cleaned up and hauled out all kinds of garbage from Ellisville Harbor State Park beach. They left behind several seals who were spectating and a garbage free beach!!
