Weekly quote:
"One looks back with appreciation to the brilliant teachers, but with gratitude to those who touched our human feelings. The curriculum is so much necessary raw material, but warmth is the vital element for the growing plant and for the soul of the child."

Butterflies Take Flight
Kindergartners in Mrs. Rebecca Costa and Ms. Erin Shirley's classes completed a unit on butterflies during the last few weeks.
"We received butterfly larva and recorded daily observations as the caterpillars got bigger, turned into chrysalises, and finally into butterflies," says Mrs. Costa. "The students really enjoyed watching the daily changes that took place!"
While students were waiting for the caterpillars to turn into butterflies, they completed several butterfly activities including sequencing the life cycle of a butterfly, painting symmetrical butterflies, and writing facts that we learned about butterfly. When the butterflies came out of their chrysalises, the students let them fly away outside.

On Thursday, May 9th, the Vocational Technical Education program held its Annual Senior Showcase, where the graduating vocational technical education students from each program at both Plymouth South and Plymouth North High Schools displayed a variety of their work. The event drew a large crowd and included some industry specialists, who were very impressed by the students' work and even offered some post-graduation opportunities to students based on the quality of the work that was presented. The evening was made more special with hors d'oeuvres and desserts being prepared and served by the Plymouth South High School Culinary department and music being performed by the Plymouth South High School Jazz ensemble. The event was a great success and a very special way to mark the culmination of four years of hard work the vocational technical education students have put in to their chosen programs of study. Congratulations to all of the CVTE students and we wish them the best of luck in the future!
Foreign Language -
The Foreign Language department at PSHS has been very dedicated the past couple of weeks with integrating technology in to the classroom!
Mr. Carpenito's AP Spanish class was given the task of creating a visual and audio tour of various areas of Plymouth South High School in Spanish. Students chose to focus on the gymnasium, technology, the IMC and other great places within the school! The students used the ipads to go around the school to take pictures and video and then uploaded the pictures and video in to the app Explain Everything where they then organized all of their pictures/videos and then recorded verbal explanations in Spanish. Explain Everything is an app that allows one to explain anything and everything on one or one hundred slides using screen narration, voice, pictures, text, color and more!
Click here to see samples of their videos:
http://srcarpenitoapspanishblockb.blogspot.com/
Mrs. Kelly and Mrs. Dias both collaborated on a project where they had each of their Spanish CP 1 classes creating a story all about their childhood in Spanish using the iPads and the app Book Creator. Book Creator is an easy to use app that allows one to create eBooks using text pictures, and voice/sound recordings. Students in both classes got very creative with their stories, design and recordings. The Book Creator app really allowed their childhood stories come to life! To see samples of the eBooks please stop by the IMC to see Jacqui Frongello.
Great job to all the teachers and students on the creativity and efforts put in to the projects!
PLYMOUTH SOUTH'S ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

The G & G/PSHS Female Athlete of the Week is senior Darby Andersson. Andersson improved her record in No. 1 singles (9-8) going (2-1) last week on the tennis court. In her first victory of the week against Sandwich, Andersson dominated the court, winning in straight sets (6-4, 6-0) against an opponent she had lost to earlier in the season. In spite of Wednesday's rain, Andersson played a hard fought battle against one of the top singles players in the state from Carver, losing a close match (8-10). She came out on top again Friday with a win at Pembroke, beating her opponent in straight sets (6-4, 6-4). Andersson's season so far has been quite impressive, jumping ahead into the No. 1 singles position this year after playing No. 2 doubles last year. Her hard work on the court during the season and off-season is truly paying off. Congratulations and great job, Darby!
The G & G/PSHS Male Athlete of the Week is senior Edward Savage. Savage recorded a save and a win while hitting over .300 for the week beginning with a two-inning save over Silver Lake and giving up only 1 hit. He then came back on Thursday pitching 4 innings against Whitman-Hanson, again giving up only 1 hit and earning the win. Savage has been a leader for the Baseball Team all year on the field. Great work and congratulations, Ted!
