Cold Spring Elementary School News

The fourth grade students in Miss Rosen's class completed a project as a culminating activity to their nonfiction reading unit. Students read multiple nonfiction texts on a topic they were interested in. They gathered and organized information, compared information from multiple texts, and learned how to distinguish the author's point of view in a nonfiction text. Then the students synthesized all the new information they learned from their multiple resources by writing paragraphs and displaying it in a creative, colorful, and visual display.

West Elementary School News

West Elementary students participated in a whole school Peaceful Bus meeting on Wednesday. Each bus group met together with bus leaders and bus drivers to build a positive bus community as well as review bus rules. Older students were paired with younger students to complete a get to know you activity. They also got to know their bus driver a little better with a whole group interview. Finally, students reviewed bus safety rules and discussed the good things going on the bus and items that needed to be changed.

Manomet Elementary School News

Last Friday before the vacation, Manomet students took to the stage to show the many gifts that they have by participating in the 3rd Annual Manomet School Talent Show. There were over 35 acts that "wow-ed" a packed audience. Five acts were selected to perform at the school year-end assembly. Congratulations to all of the boys and girls who got up there and performed!

Also in February, Manomet Elementary School celebrated various cultures around the world with a potluck supper called "International Night". Families are encouraged to share a dish native to their ancestry. Families also enjoyed an amazing display of art throughout the school as well as an array of social studies projects. Among the beautiful art exhibits were striking projects created by the 4th graders. Clothespin dolls accentuated the students' research display boards. Third graders created adorable Australian animals.

PLYMOUTH SOUTH'S ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

The G & G/PSHS Female Athlete of the week is Serena Colbert.  Colbert is a senior and has been a superior leader in the Girls' Basketball Program.   She has consistently been a motivator, a hard worker, and a great teammate. Throughout the season the team has looked to Colbert for her defense, and her ability to be an offensive spark.  She has been a big help in bringing everyone together and in helping new players adjust to the varsity team.  Terrific work, Serena!  Congratulations!

The G & G/PSHS Male Athlete of the Week is senior Colin Harty.  As well as being a two-time state place finisher, he placed fifth in Division I Wrestling. Colin ends his impressive career with the second most career wins in the history of Plymouth South High.  Great Job!  Congratulations, Colin!

In spite of any challenges presented by the weather, Plymouth Schools participated in their annual Science Fair.  Although the formal portion of the fair was cancelled, classroom teachers judged projects during school hours and top projects from the district were recognized in private receptions at both Plymouth South High School and Plymouth North High School.

The PSHS Science Department is pleased to announce the following winners from South:  Cullen Murphy (9) - "Unseen Machines";  Jordan Davey (9) - "Inertia Busters";  Veronica Holmes (9)  - "The Composition of Sound";  Julietta Mascitelli (9) - "How Do Fears Change With Age?";  Jacob Jobe (9) - "The Five Second Rule:  Fact or Fiction?";  Nicholas Paul (9) - "Cyber Predators";  Kelsey Doyle (10) - "Water Temperature and Sterility:  How Do These  Variables Affect Oyster Growth?";

On Saturday, March 9th all top projects will go on to compete in the South Shore Regional Science Fair held at Bridgewater State University.

Three students from Plymouth South High School were selected to speak at the second Plymouth South Middle School Honors Breakfast on Wednesday, February 28, 2013.  The students were Tim West, Connor Disher, and Sydney Quirk.  Tim started the morning off by speaking to 7th grade students, followed by Connor talking to the 8th grade and Sydney finishing off the morning speaking to the 6th grade. These students are asked to speak about what has made them successful in Middle and High School. Sydney speaking to the 6th grade had the added pressure of speaking in front of her little sister, who was at the breakfast. Plymouth South Middle School has been inviting Plymouth South Students for several years and it has been extremely successful.

Aly Messina and Holly Sessler competed in the State Pentathalon on Wednesday, February 27th against girls from across the state.  They faced the best female athletes in the state.  Out of 123 competing, Aly came in 27th and Holly came in 54th.  Congratulations to both girls on an outstanding achievement!
