SS United States: Lady in Waiting, a remarkable film directed by Robert Radler and produced by Conservancy board member Mark Perry, tells the story of the SS United States from her conception through her record-breaking career and into the tough years after she was taken out of service. A limited supply of first edition copiesof Lady in Waiting can now be purchased directly from Big Ship Films via Amazon for the low price of $13.99. These will likely become highly collectible, so if you're interested in owning one for yourself, be sure to purchase sooner rather than later. Although the DVD may appear to be "temporarily out of stock" on the Amazon page, more copies are still available. You will not be charged for your order until Amazon receives additional inventory and your DVD is ready to ship to you.

This gorgeous SS United States tribute penmade of polished white acrylic with chrome and satin metal fittings has a look that recalls the ship's interior trim. The engraved image of the ship comes from the guest cards used on board during the SS United States's service days. Twenty-five percent of each sale will be donated to the SS United States Conservancy.

The SS United States was launched on this day in 1951. Thanks to the support of Conservancy members, our curatorial and archival collection -- from the ship's christening to the present day -- continues to grow. Introducing the SS United States Conservancy's newest outreach initiative, our first official chapter on the west coast! Founding Conservancy board member Mark Perry (of Los Angeles) and dedicated Big U supporter Danny Warner (of Sacramento) will co-chair the chapter. "Welcome to all those who love the Big U," said Warner. "We're glad to have you join us in this new endeavor!"
"We're very excited to finally have a chapter on the west coast," Perry added. "Danny and I are looking forward to rolling up our sleeves and helping promote the cause of preserving both the ship and her legacy."
Details regarding a special launch event are forthcoming.

"This is Superliner United States KJEH"
Our second recent launch (in addition to the West Coast chapter) is our new blog, Call Sign KJEH. We'll be sharing firsthand accounts from those whose lives crossed paths with the ship -- passengers, crewmembers, shipbuilders, and more. These transmissions from the ship's past and present ensure the extraordinary history of the SS United States lives on. By broadcasting stories from people with deep connections to the ship, we can transmit her great legacy into the future.
