One-step Membership Renewal
|

You can magnify the impact of your Conservancy donation by signing up for our monthly giving program. For as little as $5 per month, you can provide the Conservancy with a crucial, ongoing source of financial support. If you currently give $50 each year, consider donating $5 per month. If you give $100 each year, consider a donation of $10 per month. If 6,000 supporters pledged only $10 per month, the SS United States's core carrying costs would be covered for an entire year!
By joining this program, you'll still receive all Conservancy membership benefits. Best of all, you can do this with just a single click! Here's how: When you click the Donate button within our newsletter, there's a checkbox to the right of the box for your donation amount. Click that checkbox, and whatever dollar amount you enter will automatically be deducted each month. You can also find the link on our website just below the red Donate Now button here. As we get ready to launch our membership renewal drive, we'd like to again thank you for your generous support on behalf of the SS United States!

Executive Director's Update
|
Dear Conservancy Supporters:
Momentum continues to build for the SS United States! We kicked off our Flagship fundraising campaign a week ago, and fifty supporters have already stepped up and contributed more than $13,600. From purchasing gift memberships to buying our new signature flagship tee to signing on to help with our October 29 event, people from across the country and around the world are rallying to Save Our Ship.
These funds are absolutely crucial as we work to keep the SS United States safely afloat while pre-development due diligence is completed. The Conservancy faces big expenses every month, including dockage, insurance, security, curatorial programming, and ship maintenance costs. We need your help to keep going.
We've made major strides toward securing a permanent location for the ship and identifying how best to activate the ship's commercial potential. Work continues to advance, and we remain optimistic that we can achieve our goal of creating a dynamic, new role for our nation's flagship. We are working extremely hard behind the scenes on some truly exciting plans and we look forward to sharing more information with you as soon as we are able.
As Dan Landau so beautifully expresses in his new song about the SS United States, the Big U succeeded in making "the whole world believe" when she first sped across the Atlantic. Today, as Landau reminds us, she "still speaks to all who dream, and to every journey yet to be." We've been on an extraordinary journey together, and we remain profoundly grateful for your generous and continued support.

Dan Landau & Virginia Children's Chorus Make Music
|
American performer/composer/producer Dan Landau sings his defiantly hopeful "To Every Journey," joined by Hampton Roads' acclaimed Virginia Children's Chorus, led by Carol Thomas Downing, Founder and Artistic Director, in a united bid to inspire all of America to save its still-proud flagship. Among the young singers on this recording are grandchildren and other descendants of some of the proud Newport News shipyard workers who built the SS United States.
This track is a free download aimed at generating awareness for America's Flagship. You may choose to make a donation for the track if you wish, and all proceeds from the song go directly to the SS United States Conservancy. To learn more about Dan Landau and his hopes for the SS United States, read Hugh Lessig's powerful story in the Daily Press.

Raise a Flag on the Foredeck of the SS United States!
|
Here's an exciting new way to show your support for the SS United States: Let us make a special, personalized banner and hang it for you on the ship's foredeck! Our four-by-two-and-a-half feet-long colorful banners can be customized with tribute messages, logos, or names of loved ones. During the run-up to our major event in Philadelphia on October 29, we'll also be adorning the ship with festive signal flags. We are ready to mount your personalized banner for a donation of $750. These offer a great opportunity for chapters, families, and groups to come together and Save Our Ship. We'll also offer a special shipboard photo opportunity for our banner owners on September 17 - details to follow. Click here to help Save our Ship by buying a flag. Questions? Email us at info@ssusc.org.

On July 30, the Conservancy hosted a planning and brainstorming session at Philadelphia's Independence Seaport Museum. The event, led by renowned author-illustrator David Macaulay, generated many exciting ideas and potential directions for our future digital exhibition. Later that same day, members of the host committee met at the historic Union League to begin planning our major fundraising event scheduled for October 29. Finally, many Conservancy members gathered that evening and continued to exchange ideas at an informal social gathering at 2nd Story Brewing. Below are additional photos from the day's events.

How Does the Conservancy Spend its Donations?
|
As you consider supporting the Conservancy's current Flagship Campaign, note that eighty-six percent of all funds received are applied directly to the ship's core carrying costs, including insurance, dockage, and vessel caretaking. Only six percent of the Conservancy's budget covers administrative expenses.
Check out our infographic above that breaks out the Conservancy's costs. Every dollar counts! Again, we invite you to consider making an end-of-summer donation and we thank you so much for your continued support.
